BATIQA Hotel Pekanbaru ★★★

📍 Jl. Jend. Sudirman No.17, Simpang Tiga, Kota Pekanbaru, Bukit Raya

"It was a good stay as always. This time after 2 years not staying, the quality and everything still the same. Found clothes in the bathroom from previous guest (I think), but then the staff responded very fast and clean it. Some input maybe need to pay more attention on the small detail in cleaning the room."

The Baliview Luxury Villas & Resto ★★★

📍 Jl. Putri Indah, Simpang Tiga, Bukit Raya

"It's easy to fall in love with the advertising. The photos... The reality is quite different: the swimming pool, the supposed highlight of the complex, is nonexistent, just a pile of rubble and a construction ruin. The house looks nice and cozy at first glance. But on second glance... Third World: a huge, spacious, and very high-ceilinged beautiful living room, without air conditioning. When I arrived, it was 32°C inside. I thought I'd open all the small bedrooms and turn everything up to maximum. After 1.5 hours, two bedrooms were still hot, the third somewhat cool, but impossible to sleep in. On top of that, there's no refrigerator in the kitchen, so you can consume drinks costing over 30°C. I politely inquired, and they told me I could be dumped on a luxury villa. I looked at the house. Everything was the same except for a lousy refrigerator and a dingy hole they call a pool. It would have cost twice as much. The toilet was also absolutely abysmal. The location is in the middle of nowhere, meaning you couldn't even get chilled water at the supermarket. I left after two hours. They showed absolutely no understanding, were unwilling to cancel or change the situation. In such a tropical region, air conditioning is essential, as is a refrigerator. Ultimately, it was certainly all wonderful years ago; that's where all the good reviews come from. Now, in this condition, it's uninhabitable. And it was expensive, too—twice as much as a four-star hotel in Bali."

"Clean room, comfortable bed and pillows made for a great night's sleep. The cappuccino from the coffee machine was delicious. There's also a traditional herbal drink (jamu gendong) available at the breakfast restaurant, which is a nice, hassle-free touch. Check-out was quick and efficient."
