This memorable place is anything but ordinary. A completely restored 1954 Spartan Imperial Mansion Airstream Trailer. One of the best views in Western NC and within 5 minutes of Weaverville, 10 to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and 15 minutes to Asheville.
This has been a labor of love and the private covered outdoor living space and cantilevered deck are as amazing as the Caravan itself. An outdoor shower, infrared sauna, cold therapy tank, plus a small nature trail and a creek to play in complete the experience.
Caravan Q has approximately 340 square feet of interior space. The space is completely restored with all luxury amenities such as luxury linens and memory foam mattress. A covered patio is another 550 square feet of outdoor living space attached to a 350 sq. ft cantilevered deck. A completely private holiday rental. Guests have access to a creek trail and swimming hole at the bold creek. There are two parking spaces and storage is available for bikes and sports equipment.
The History of “Caravan Q”:
Hosting a 1954 Spartan Imperial Mansion “double ender” wasn’t really in my plans.
A chance conversation with a friend in Portland inspired Caravan Q. While helping my friend create an upscale outdoor shower for his project, he suggested I look at a 1954 Spartan vintage camper he had found and create a glamping site in view of my beautiful mountains.
My first thought was I had no time to take on such a project and certainly not to manage an Airbnb.… but I couldn’t get the idea out of my head. After viewing the Spartan online — conveniently for sale in Asheville - the wheels of inspiration began to spin and I realized not only could I create this magnificent getaway, I wanted to!
Designing on a very different scale than my jewelry was immensely appealing.
When my bid on the Spartan was accepted, there was no turning back.
And then, Covid. A shutdown of our world and months of covid-imposed “house arrest.” In those months, the mountains, the creek, and my acreage were my private sanctuary. Reems Creek was, and is, my view, privacy, and safety in this world. And I had the means to share this bliss with others via the caravan. A retro house on wheels.
After months of prep work on the site, and multiple stops and starts with permits, plumbers and properly restoring the camper interior, my dream began to unfold in ways that delighted me. And my design wheels began spinning in earnest.
I became a metalsmith before I was a jeweler because I loved taking raw metal and turning it into something new. My love for textured metal and decorative ironwork can be seen throughout the property.
I wanted to combine my passion for metal and my appreciation for nature in the outdoor elements on the site. I curated everything for the outdoor space with an eye towards upcycling metal and creating a place of luxury and sanctuary, with a vintage look and feel, as if it had been there for decades. My ultimate vision was a study in private, casual elegance.
From the metal patio dining table to the privacy screen with its botanical motif, the corrugated metal fence and steel covered patio, and the raw steel beams and supports of the outdoor living space - metal choices influence the look and feel of the exterior at every turn.
Looking toward the interior, the woodwork was completely restored to its original beauty and everything from light fixtures to the original Kelvinator refrigerator has been carefully redone. The must-haves on my to-do list included a luxury mattress and linens, updated lighting, and a restful color palette to create as much of a refuge from the outside world as the cantilevered deck invites you to enjoy the mountains.
An array of artist friends helped with details like the hand-painted canvas valences above the windows, a finishing touch that pulls in colors from the accent pieces, and mid-century furnishings throughout the space.
Putting my traveler’s hat on, I began to assemble the items I would want in a luxury kitchen, of course on a scale that embraces the size of the Caravan’s space. The goal was to have the necessary utensils and cookware a guest would need available in the highest quality, befitting of a vintage glamping experience. One of the most fun touches was putting together a cocktail station with mid-century bar accessories.
If I’ve done my job well, guests will leave refreshed and ready to rejoin the “outside” world with their next reservation already on the books, knowing the mountains simply await their return.
This private mountain hideaway provides beautiful views of Reems Creek Valley and the mountains to the southeast. Nestled on 12 acres, the property features lush trees and a bubbling creek. The peaceful feeling and view are unparalleled.
Watch the sunrise over the mountains or sip cocktails in the late afternoon sunset glow from the covered patio. The patio table is perfectly situated to enjoy meals outdoors, with a gas grill and cook area only steps away. Wander down the hill to sit by the Creek, enjoy a relaxing lunch at the picnic table, or cool off in the swimming hole.
Caravan Q has been designed for your comfort and ease. Please stay on Q’s large property, allowing the neighbors their privacy.
Welcome to Caravan Q. May you find refuge, refreshment, and restoration here.
