We took my Mother for afternoon tea last week to celebrate her 90th Birthday and it was simply outstanding! The quality of the offering was first class and the portions were very generous. The staff on duty were so kind and helpful and it made for a very happy and enjoyable Occassion and all at a very reasonable price!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel with family for my brother in laws 70th birthday celebration for 26 guests. We stayed for two nights From moment we arrived till we left, we were welcomed, made to feel at home and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful even helping to decorate table at the hotels expense. The manager, Alison couldn’t have done more to make the function run smoothly and tender for everybody’s requirements. All the staff were so friendly and helpful and very hard working. The food and presentation were impeccable. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Prices were very reasonable both for the rooms and bar prices. Our room was particularly large. I cannot find any faults with our stay at this hotel and would highly recommend for a stay, meal or celebration. Again a big thanks to Alison and all the staff at the hotel for all their hard work and attentiveness. All guests and family both staying or attending this function were all of the same opinion.

Breakfast was wonderful, everything was delicious and felt top quality with locally sourced ingredients. The room was lovely and clean, spacious and quiet with stunning views. It was warm but not overhot, which is a pet hate for me. In the evenings, we especially loved playing board games by the fire in the drawing room while having a drink or two from the bar, I felt transported to simpler times. Upon exploring a little, I could see they had a lovely area outside for summer bbqs and a tennis court which we didn't use. The grounds were well kept and we saw a variety of wildlife including pheasants randomly walking around. The staff were sweet, attentive and so helpful throughout; nothing was too much. Dinner felt special and was delicious. The location is wonderful as we used it as a base to explore York, Malton, Goathland and Whitby that were not too far away. The fact the hotel is deep in the countryside with little light meant my space mad daughter was finally able to see the Milky Way, something she's never been able to see from London, which she absolutely loved! If I had to suggest anything to make it any better, then I would suggest a swimming pool that can be used all year round, just for the entertainment value it would provide (I know my daughter would have loved one!). But to be honest, after a whole day of exploring we were so tired, swimming was the last thing on our minds! Our stay was so wonderfully serene and just what we needed to recharge. We wouldn't think twice about coming back. Thank you so much x

From start to finish, I loved it! We were there for a Wedding. The staff were excellent and so friendly and helpful. The room was spotless, as was the hotel in general it felt so homley. The Wedding food was gorgeous, tasty and hot! The breakfast was so hot and tasty. I really can't think of anything negative and look forward to staying again Well done all the staff who work there! Just spent 2 nights here. Very quiet location with lovely outlook. First thing to say is that the staff are absolutely excellent, all charming, friendly and helpful. We had 2 dinners, and breakfasts, and the food was really good. Only had a couple of reservations: if you're booking you need to check out the individual room descriptions. Our room was on the 2nd floor and there's no lift. The shower was over the bath so awkward to use for older people like us. There's only one staircase and no other fire exit. There's lots to see and do in the area, though the hotel doesn't seem to provide any information on this, and there didn't seem to be any local walks. Obviously a lovely venue for a wedding or party, but maybe not for a longer visit.

We had a 60th birthday Sunday lunch at Burythorpe (the day after they hosted a large wedding) and everything from the initial enquiry right through to the day itself was fantastic. The staff could not have been more helpful, the food was delicious and the place itself was beautiful. There were over 30 guests and all the food was served at once, there were no issues, nothing was too much trouble. We had the perfect day, would definitely return without hesitation!

Fabulous 21st birthday family afternoon tea. Thank you so so much to Alison and her team for looking after us royally all afternoon and evening. Gorgeous food, beautifully presented. Nothing was too much trouble. We were all made so welcome from age 80 to 9 months old. Extra thanks to Chef for a beautiful chocolate ganache birthday cake We couldn’t have asked for more and had the most wonderful time at Burythorpe, very special forever memories made .

Nearly frightened to write this review for fear of sharing this gem. From checking in to checking out fantastic customer service all with a smile, which is rare these days. The owner should be proud of Alison and her team as they complete the experience. The room was very clean, quiet location, the breakfast was the best we have had in sometime. The only regret is that we didn't get a chance to sample the dinner menu because of prior arrangements. Looking forward to our next relaxing stay, thank you.

Lovely hotel in a picture perfect location. The staff go above and beyond to be accommodating, attentive and helpful. We stayed in a lovely room, king size bed and a roll top bath, views over the beautiful countryside too. Couldn’t ask for a better place to stay, and be welcomed like family friends too!
