My friend and I rented a 2 bedroom apartment at the Reef Gateway from March 2 to 9, 2020. The complex is a short 5-10 minutes from the airport, and is about a 20 minute walk to the reef terminal and shops. The facilities are very good: beautiful shaded pool, stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, nice shower, good linens and free Netflix! We were on the ground floor and had a nice, private patio. Clothes washer and dryer and a clothes 'horse' for hanging up wet clothes. I can't say enough about the excellent care and kindness of manager, ”Michael”. If we needed anything or had any questions he was most helpful. When I take another vacation in Cairns, I will stay at the Reef Gateway.

There were 3 nights and also just to sleep there, therefore completely enough. Rooms were very large, a lot of space, large shower and a balcony. Pool we have not used. Personal very friendly rooms could be a little cleaner. It was clear, however, that only from the 2nd day is cleaned. The little dead crab beef was still at the same place next to the night table, although the beds were made. So you should have seen it. But well. As I said, it did not disturb us because of the 3x shells. Breakfast was also OK, think everyone finds something. Toast, bread, yoghurt, fruit salad, coffee, tea, corn flakes, juices, marmelade, honey ... etc. In the city it is about 15 min walking distance. Since there is a hospital next to it, the helicopter landed 2 times, but otherwise we have hardly heard sirens. We would go back there. Achja and the Balinese restaurant (morrow morning breakfast room) has been super delicious and always full, so best book before. I wrote an extra review

Stayed here for 2 nights over easter. Chose a King room and on arrival were upgraded to a King Suite on Level 5. View across to Cairns and up to the mountains was very relaxing and with a largish lounge area separate to the King bedroom there is plenty of room to relax if it is an extended stay. For those who like the exercise its not s huge walk into the city especially if you go a few blocks to the foreshore parklands and wander along that way. Busses (quite a few) run along Sheridan Street as an alternate and a taxi ride is only a few $. Airport is also a short taxi trip and the hotel will have one outside within minutes as they did for us a couple of times. Hotel staff are very helpful and the restaurant serve very good meals. We ate there 3 times for evening meals. Next door is Dunwoody's Hotel which offers a great alternate for an evening meal or a nights entertainment (once their renovations are complete).

The photos provided by the operators are extremely deceptive. The accomodation is old and run down. The shower tiles were painted at some stage, and it is now peeling off both the floor and the walls. The “updated” vanity basin and tap are poorly sizes and you are unable to fully wash your face due to the shape and size of the basin with a shorter necked faucet . There is no complete enclosure for water in the shower resulting in you flooding the bathroom each time you shower- we ended up using the common showers in the passageway to attempt keep our room dry. The toilet paper is only single ply so bring your own if you decide to stay here !! Our towels and sheets had stains on them and the pillows are flat and lumpy. I wouldn’t swim in the pool unless you’ve had your latest tetanus shots. We were followed back to the accommodation by a slightly hostile homeless person one night which was slightly unnerving for our teenage daughters. The nicest part of this accommodation is the outdoor BBQ area. The breakfast provided smelt ok, but we decided to eat at the cafe at the marina each day as we were heading out to the reef and islands anyways. We decided to stay here and save money as generally we are out during the day and only need a comfortable bed and a clean shower- next time we will be going back to our regular accommodation closer to the Esplanade.
