Strand Guesthouse

For the price you pay it was not worth the stay. I have found when i entered the room that facility was very old, when using the shower, it was cold water only and the drains were blocked overflowing into the bathroom. Cobwebs all over the hand basin in the (kitchen) area. No sugar or milk. It was only said after I have already paid on the website and entered that if I want to park my vehicle inside the premises then it is an additional R100 per night for safe parking and also had to pay R250 breakage deposit which was not mentioned on the website.

Won't go back, hope someone rescues the poor bird!! Liked · Breakfast was not offered. Spacious family room. Disliked · Mould on curtains, hard to navigate to room through garage where people park and leave no room to walk. We had to move past vehicles (with our bags) through 20 cms between vehicles and wall. We reserved a parking space with staff member that checked us in, only to find a full garage upon our return. There is a little bird (quail) in a cage with finches. It has no nest or hiding place, its scurrying around in clear distress the whole time!! It broke my heart to say the least! We will not return. SAD

I booked a place for a night at Strand guesthouse, subsequent to the booking I was informed that they will give us alternative accommodation because the one we booked is under construction. we agreed because we were assured of the same standard to the one we initially booked. all to find out it was the worst, the bed has small thin sponge, the noise from upper floor is unbearable, bad hygiene. the stay was a nightmare

I never stayed at Strand Guesthouse on 1-2 May. I requested to change dates and was not allowed. Disappointed. Waste of money

The person checking me in wanted to see my ID and when I didn't have it on me he wanted to take a picture of me "for security reasons". I have stayed in a thousand places of accommodation in all four hemispheres and I have NEVER (even in 5-star tourist hotels) been asked to have my picture taken. When I refused he said: "It's our rules". I told him he could call the police and tell them I refused to have my picture taken. Inside the bedroom I asked him where the cupboard was where I could hang my clothes. He said: "This room doesn't have one. You can put them there," and indicated a settee. Really? The shower was dirty and unhygienic. The parking (for which I had to fork out an additional R90) was an extremely tight squeeze for my hatch back small car. Any normal car or SUV will not fit in. A notice says "Additional free parking is available." Sure. In the street outside. Good luck with that.

We visited for April holidays and we had a pleasant stay at Strand Guesthouse. The room was lovely, value for money and conveniently located. Friendly and helpful staff. Will be visiting again soon. I recommend this place.
