Beautiful location and great swimming beach across the road The view is spectacular and could see dolphins and whales most days We booked for 2 nights and added an extra night to enjoy the location at Smiths Beach. Upstairs apartment views are amazing Great walks accessible from the resort or a short drive to other beaches. The apartment (2 bedrooms) was spacious enough and clean. Shower and bathroom was the best. Deck had both chairs and day bed to relax

We stayed for a week in March and overall had a great time. We have been fortunate enough to have now stayed at all three accommodation options at Smith’s Beach and Canal Rocks offers the best value for money in my opinion. We stayed in unit 15, which is one of the standard units. The view was absolutely spectacular. Yes, the decor is a bit outdated but I think the price reflects this. What is unforgivable though is the rock hard bed. As I lay awake for hours on the first night, I honestly thought there must have been some mistake and the cleaner had forgotten to add a mattress topper, or something had happened to the normal mattress and they’d been forced to pull this mattress out of storage. I couldn’t imagine a world where a mattress this uncomfortable would be acceptable in any paying guest and I had all night to think about it and contemplate all manner of excuses for why this might have happened and thought for sure it would be rectified the next day. I called reception on day two to ask about it and they seemed utterly confused, as if no one had ever had an issue with the mattress before. When I asked if they had a spare mattress topper anywhere the lady said no but they’d look into it and perhaps they could put an extra quilt on top of the mattress instead. I checked the bed later and they had put a single wool blanket down on top of the mattress and not a fluffy quilt which I had been hoping for in the very least. Surprisingly this did actually make a bit of a difference but this is perhaps even further of an indictment of how bad this mattress was that a single flat blanket managed to take the edge off the bone bruising hardness. No one from management ever reached out to ask me if this rectified the situation. I hate complaining and had already found dealing with the staff fairly unproductive, so I was pretty sure further complaints would have only resulted in unpleasant feelings on both sides. As this would have spoiled our holiday further, I decided just to try to deal with it. We still did have a great holiday, although not quite as restful as I would have liked. Please, please, please for the love of god, get new mattresses so no one else has to suffer like we did!
