This has to be one of the most unsettling and disturbing experiences I’ve ever had staying in a hotel. Unbeknown to me the hotel is used to house homeless peoples. No issue with that necessarily. However, some of these guessed cause incredible disturbance, not just the huge level of noise throughout the nights, but the kind of noise! Screaming, thumping, crashing, bangs, terrible threatens swearing, as it sounded like the people were having a serious fight in the adjacent room. Or domestic violence, the female voice screamed with terror, as I heard thumps and bangs. A male voice bellowing “you c***…” It was most disturbing as I feared for her safety. And my own. I used the bedside phone to contact reception, who said they would investigate. The noice carrying on most of the night. When I talked to reception team the following day there was no record of my call/complaint. I was awake most of the night, feeling quite anxious and unsure what to do . The following evening the room opposite were in and out constantly talking loudly about ***** and sex workers, the door permanently slamming as a number of them were in and out constantly, or just gathering in the corridor near there room… And right out my door. There seemed to several voices right outside my door talking loudly, and using vulgar language. I peeped to see a few men, and two young Asian women, dressed up ‘to party’, noticing a strong smell of cigarettes (not the legal kind). They were playing loud thumping dance music, and the ladies squealed. Then a smoke alarm went off. A young porter doing his job to investigate accidentally entered my room as I lay alone in the dark, giving me the fright of my life. I feared it was one of the men from the room opposite. Talking to him he said he had meant to go in the room opposite, was very apologetic, said he had to go warn them again about smoking in the room, and the noise, but said he was too scared to go in. The lad confirmed the sex workers, saying that was a usual thing, as was the smoking, noise, disturbance, foul language, fighting and general anti social behaviour. That the police were often called when things got out of hand. I felt very sorry for the young porter who seemed completely out of his depth, anxious and not equipped in any way to deal with this kind of madness. I felt very much I’d been plonked right in the middle of all sorts of craziness, depravity, *****, violence, that not only kept me awake and ruined my trip to visit my grown up children and enjoy celebrations we had planned, but also made me feel unsafe. This is by far the worst hotel experience of my life. And frankly feel I should be payed for staying there! After initial complaints were received with an apathetic attitude, with some reception staff acting as though I was talking rubbish (pulling faces to match the act) I was offered a coffee! I had travelled 100s of miles to share some special moments with adult children on the rare occasion we can all be in the same place. Plans made in the day were cancelled as I was too tired, and quite upset. The whole trip was ruined became I chose this hotel. It may be sometime before our schedules will align and we can all be together again. But tomorrow isn’t promised is it! After more and more complaints I was given an extra night in a quieter part of the building, which I appreciated. However, this simply served as a place for me to get some sleep as I had barely slept since I’d checked in, before I took the long journey home. It did not resolve my complaint. The trip was ruined, it just meant I could finally get some sleep and a little peace and sense of safety … one would expect ‘sleep’ and ‘safety’ to come as the very most basics of hotel stay. I would never recommend this hotel, in fact in good conscience I would feel compelled to warn people.
