I have been visiting the area since moving to Scotland in 2015. I only live about 60 miles from this area and fish the iconic Loch Ken which I've fallen in love with. I have brought many people to the area that have stayed in this establishment and surrounding ones. I have close friends that have settled in the local community and have done some amazing things for the local businesses. I have also arranged many fishing competitions on the loch........some matches are attended by over 50 anglers staying for 3/4 days as they are big competitions. They stay in the surrounding hotels like this one and others up in the town of Dalry. They also share lots of blogs and stories on social media that attracts a lot of attention and brings more people into the area. I was at the Loch this weekend.....along with 40 other match anglers and arranged to meet one of the local committee guys of the New Galloway Angling Association at the hotel Saturday morning. I was greeted by instant animosity from the owner....and was instantly told to leave....for no particular reason although he mentioned something about not being a local. Interesting from someone that runs a hotel business and surely their priority would be to attract 'non locals' to the area. His attitude absolutely stank....and he was also quite intimidating, I could sense he was going to cause trouble as soon as he approached my car. I've also seen his behavior before when staying at the Hotel when he has been very rude to customers. I've sent people to this Hotel and definitely wont be doing so in the future. After what I've witnessed and also heard I wouldn't go anywhere near the place. I was really looking forward to this weekend.....going away for 3 days and taking a break from caring for my very sick wife who is battling with Cancer. This guy completely ruined my day before it had even started. Don't spend a £1 in this establishment he doesn't deserve it....

Really friendly place. We came up for a friend’s birthday party nearby so it was a great base. It’s got a fab location. Curries are brilliant. Warm and welcoming. Room smallish but everything I needed. Good value, with nice bar. Great for a break in this quiet corner of D&G.

We stopped at this beautiful riverside setting on our travels around Dumfries and Galloway. Warm friendly welcome. Shown to the field next to the hotel. Electric hookup at the pitches, fresh water, rubbish and disposal point. We parked near to the road to get a level pitch but the road was quiet overnight. Access to toilet and shower in the back of the hotel and decent WiFi. Perfectly adequate although the facilities could do with a good clean. There did not seem to be usable washing up facilities, but maybe because it was winter. We had dinner in the hotel which was lovely. The hotel and bar seemed oddly quiet for a Saturday night. Great location and with some investment and tlc, this could be transformed into a wonderful camping spot.

Awful excuse for a 'man' was rude and insulting when asked about room rates and to see a menu. Utter oaf in his mannerisms, use of language and demeanour. Perhaps simply a lack of intelligence is to blame and not anything more sinister; we left. An utter twonk! No wonder the place was empty and not a car parked there. He shall soon be bankrupt and selling on. Then perhaps some decent type may do the building and area justice? We can hope...

Great overnight stay at this friendly little hotel. Ignore the previous reviews and see for yourself as I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness and hospitality received. Decent pub food in the bar/restaurant and good breakfast the next day. I had a nice, comfortable room overlooking the river which was spotlessly clean. The rooms are decorated in a traditional style which suits the age of the building etc but everywhere was clean and tidy. Would definitely stop over again if I was in the area.

Stayed here before and its a great location to stay when biking in the area. On arrival there was no problem booking in. We had already pre booked 5 of us to eat on the evening but this booking did not seem to be in the diary. Thankfully they could fit us in. Our room was really nice. Lovely and clean with very comfy beds! Very quiet and didnt hear any other guests. Food on the evening was nice. Every meal comes with ALOT of chips!! But everything was tasty. Breakfast was good. We had been asked to pre-order which we did and specified a time but still we had to wait half an hour from our time slot before our food came out. Thankfully we were not in a hurry but that was a bit strange! Only dealt with the female there. There was a lot going on at times and she seemed to be covering a lot of things. It would have been good if she had had more help - someone to clear the tables, take drink orders, deal with bookings coming in. She coped well but a helping hand would definitely make things run a bit more smoothly at front of house.

Another Wonderful Stay. This is the fourth time we have stayed at this lovely place since October last year. This was just a month since the new owners got the place and each time we have visited since it just gets better and better. With a lovely old fashioned feel and a quirky layout of up and down stairs it feels just right for the beautiful surroundings that it is located within. There is always a warm welcome with good food, (the curry dishes are a favourite of ours) and drinks at very reasonable rates, comfortable clean accommodation. We are always sad to leave, but that only makes us more excited to return again the next time. The ideal place to stay if like us you want to explore the beauty of the local area. There is a very well kept beautiful looking campsite to the side which is also owned by the Hotel.
