We went just wanting a nice peaceful nights break, and got exactly that. Hardly heard any noise, and we had the windows open all night. We took our spaniel with us, and all the staff came to greet him, and us. All were chatty and friendly. We enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast.

Overall, my stay was good, but a couple of slight niggles … The goods … Fabulous setting, located just off the main road, and close to Castle Douglas, with a great view. Room was very spacious, with both a double and single bed. Bathroom good size, with a good shower. Staff were welcoming, friendly and wanted to do all they could to give a good stay. Very accommodating to the fact I arrived in the early hours most days, and left before breakfast. To accommodate this, they provided the breakfast bag which had a good selection of items. I really appreciate this. Having said that on the days I did manage to get to breakfast, it was delicious. The hotel itself is full of character, some small areas could do with a makeover. For example I felt the outside of the building could do with painting. Easy to say but I guess an expensive option for the owners. The not so goods … I really didn’t enjoy the one evening meal I had. Went for the massaman curry but found it to be really salty. Although the beef was very it needed to be cooked a lot longer to make it soft and tender. I also found my bedroom to be very cold. I did mention this on my first night and the staff turned up the heating, but this didn’t happen on other nights. To be fair it was probably made worse but the fact I was out late. Luckily, I could double up on duvets which helped. Definitely mixed feelings, I really wanted to like this place a little more especially with the fabulous staff.

From the moment you arrive at the gate it is a lovely relaxing feeling. The staff are lovely and welcoming. The rooms are lovely and well stocked toiletries/tea/coffee and a Tunnocks tea cake. Dining was outstanding with a lovely selection of curries. Will I return yes I will.

Lets start with the positives. Location great, proprietor friendly, plenty of parking available, room was warm and bed very comfortable so that's the 3 stars accounted for. Negatives. The room we had was a bit run down, like it's never had anything done since 2018 when I believe the hotel came into the present occupiers ownership (so we were told). The toilet was broken, not anchored to the floor and tilted rather alarmingly while sat on it, the painted walls in the bedroom were badly stained, large stains, in multiple places the ceiling was the same. The breakfast!!!! now here we have a unique experience. We have stayed in multiple bed and breakfast and hotels and continue to do so about four times a year, only once before have we experienced a breakfast like this. We ordered the full "Scottish" and it was certainly an eye opener. ONE piece (YES ONE) of bacon ONE sausage the smallest spoonful of chopped mushrooms that you could lose under the one rasher of bacon HALF (YES HALF) a tomato, I think a tattie scone (scottish folk will know) which had been fried in some disgusting fat which tasted awful and we could not eat, one piece of black pudding, and an egg. Terrible. Spoke to a couple who had been there few times before, the last time was early 2000, they told us the place has gone "down the pan" and the rooms needed some TLC nothing seems to have been done and they too had a run down room, doubtful they will return, we certainly won't. We sampled another different breakfast the next day steering away from the "full scottish" this time we got a cup of tea and ordered toast and cereal, nothing happened, the waiter didn't understand english or know the difference between marmalade and toast, failed to bring us any food we had to repeatedly ask for it and got it in the wrong order. It was a complete shambles. In a nutshell it seems the saying "why give the maximum if you can get away with the minimum". The paying public require good value for money reflected in what you pay, this is not the cheapest hotel and we've had better at cheaper. They can't keep relying on location alone to bring customers in because soon those customers will disappear.

We've stayed 4 years in a row for good reason! Shashank, Tammy & their wonderful team treat you like family - which makes you feel at home very quickly. Comfy rooms & VERY tasty food. Probably our best find ever ... & we'll be back again next year!

We took over the whole hotel for family and friends to attend a Wedding in the local area. The team could not have been more helpful. Shashank arranged an excellent menu for our delicious group evening meal ( the Curries and Mixed Indian platters were excellent ) and ensured a great experience in the warm and comfortable dining room . Lorna and the staff could not have done more to make sure that all our needs were met, making our whole time there a great experience. Comfortable. , clean , individual styled rooms and Great breakfast , with friendly staff. A super stay , thanks

Outstanding food served by delightful staff. Pleasant room and the hotel location is another positive. The hotel is clearly well managed - and seems to be an asset to the region. Excellent, knowledgeable assistance is given generously to travellers.

A beautiful venue where you are genuinely looked after by a dedicated, friendly and attentive team led by Shashank. This is a rare find where so many hotels invest in unnecessary technology that simply removes the human interaction. Here you get to talk to the team as well as other customers. It’s such a pleasure to spend time here. The food is outstanding, fresh and tasty. A great selection and some real gems. I recommend the Risotto and also the Massamam Curry - delicious 😋 The rooms are beautifully decorated, spacious and comfortable. The bed and linen are superb. The shower was a treat as it is a decent power shower.
