Spent the weekend here celebrating 80th birthday with a family meal for 13 of us. The staff were really friendly and it was tough for them because the snowy weather caused staff shortages but it was brilliant. Rooms were lovely, warm and comfy. Breakfast next morning was fab and the chap who was doing everything coped really well with a smile. Definitely recommend staying here, it's in a great position for walking and sledging. There are craft shops, cafes and pubs close by.

On arriving my husband who is disabled noticed that the only disabled space was taken by a person without a badge We made this known to the lady at the desk & after approximately half an hour she found out who the car belonged to & moved the car to another spot Later that day we saw a member of staff drive out of the car park in the same vehicle ! Also the check in process didn’t seem to work I had checked in on line but they had no record & had to check in again We were given an annexe room which was a disappointment but were told they were booked up In our opinion it was quite basic for the price £154.00 per night There were small holes in the ceiling, cobwebs in various places , a broken radiator & just one dining chair so nowhere to sit except the bed even though the room was large enough to take a couple of tub chairs There were many dirty marks & evidence of poor workmanship around the room so we weren’t happy at all We had an evening meal in the hotel that evening & experienced very poor service from staff & although the food was good it was spoilt by one of the meals being only lukewarm On viewing our bill the morning after we noticed that we had been massively overcharged for the drinks £53.10 for that alone My husband had two pints of lager & I had a glass of tap water ! The historic building is lovely & has kept its character but requires a lot of maintenance The poor service continued next morning & tables & toilets had not been cleaned from the evening before However the breakfast was good but , even though we had paid for bed & breakfast we were informed that if we had more than one item ( in our case a yoghurt with granola & fruit following a full English ) we had to pay extra We challenged this & they agreed not to charge We were booked in for three nights but by now we didn’t want to stay as we didn’t feel it was value for money & customer service was sadly lacking Dealt with in a professional manner by the member of staff we spoke to

Had a lovely Sunday Roast. Followed by one of the best stick toffee puddings I have ever had. Couldn’t have been better. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and the staff could not of been more helpful we were served by Shakiel & Peter who were friendly and welcoming can not praise them enough. Thank you.

The hotel was in an excellent location, the parking was terrible a free for all. The hotel staff couldn’t be confident that only hotel guests were parked in the limited free spaces. The room was scruffy, peeling paint and leaks in the ceiling. The room was cold and the pillows were dreadful. Expensive rooms for what was on offer, breakfast should have been included. , I would not stay again.

Very damp rooms and poor restaurant service. Such a shame this place has gone downhill. We stopped here over a year ago and it was great now just very poor customer set her and tired looking rooms (14, 16, 17) Evening meal was probably the worst food in Castleton. On a plus point the location is perfect

I received a warm welcome from Brad, who showed me to my room and carried my luggage from my car. The room and ensuite was spacious, warm and clean. The bed was very comfortable. A high level of cleanliness was maintained for my whole stay. There was a good variety and choice on the menu most of which fitted or could be adapted for my diabetic requirements with the exception of alternatives to whole milk. I prefer semi skimmed and sugar free oat milk. The accommodation was entirely suitable for my requirements

The parking is limited but free. The room was clean and spacious, bathroom very much the same with a corner bath and shower above. The staff were friendly and efficient, in a very busy period. The breakfast choice was good, well prepared and cooked to perfection. Thank you for a lovely stay.

A warm welcome at the Castle pub . The staff ,food and atmosphere were lovely .A cosy friendly pub with a warm atmosphere. Our room(no.15) for 1 night ,was clean but we felt it was a bit shabby and over priced and believe it was a budget room in the past according to past reviews. Considering it's early in the season we felt no maintenance had been done for some time and it fell short for the price . Easy access to Main Street.Great location.Street level, hills in sight. Feel the company is letting the staff and guests down by not keeping up on maintenance and the exterior could use some tlc on the main street too .Inside the pub was lovely x A nice stay all in all x
