The Fox Goes Free

Decided to go for some lunch and chose a pizza which cost over £17. It came with a few dry salad leaves, not the ones advertised and very little in the way of toppings. I had the veggie option and there was so substitute for the meat. Heard on my way out pizza base is not home made. I’ve never felt so ripped off and insulted. There was no thought or effort made and it felt like an easy way to make money Terrible value for money, we won’t be returning. The view just isn’t enough to justify this

This pub was highly recommended and I thought the food would be excellent for the price . The food was not bad but I have had nicer roasts for less money. The service was only adequate.Not value for money and we didn’t feel terribly welcomed . It didn’t live up to my expectations

I would heartily recommend The Fox Goes Free - it’s a beautiful old pub in a stunning location, so makes a great destination whether you’ve been out exploring the South Downs or just wanting to go somewhere lovely to eat. Our food was, in the main, exceptional. Some of the best pub food we’ve had - sensational pie and wonderful fish & chips. I said “in the main”, as we did have an issue with one of our dishes, which wasn’t cooked correctly. Whilst this is understandable especially at a busy time, it wasn’t really improved on being returned at our request to the kitchen. Usually a dish which was less than fantastic would dampen my experience and review score, however the manner in which the waitress (and management) dealt with the issue was nothing short of exceptional. Upon collecting the plates, she noticed that the dish in question hadn’t been eaten, asked if it was any better after being sent back, apologised profusely, asked if we’d like anything else instead, and didn’t charge for it. The measure of a hospitality establishment isn’t how they deal with everything when it’s going well, rather it’s how they deal with an issue without it becoming a problem, and The Fox Goes Free scores top makers here. Brilliant couple of days. Lovely room but best of all was the food which was delicious and plentiful. Staff were so lovely which made it difficult to leave at the end of our stay! We will definitely return in the very near future. Parking was easy in the hotels own car park.

Cosy dinner by an open fire - home-made ice cream was a highlight. Friendly & attentive staff. Comfortable, quiet room with good en suite. Excellent breakfast - the most perfectly poached egg I've had in a long time! Overall, would definitely recommend for a night away.

Really welcoming place with the friendliest team working there - made us feel very welcome. Room was nice and we had a good meal (Sunday menu) with lovely vegetables and oodles of gravy in the evening and a nice breakfast in the morning. Would like to return when weather good and we can enjoy the garden.
