It took me a while to figure out the bathroom door code. I didn't realize I needed to press the asterisk key. After entering the code, I thought it was an automatic door. It would be helpful if the instructions were clearer.

The beds in the backpacker rooms are quite large, but the room space itself is small. This is especially noticeable in the female dorms where the bathroom is adjacent; you can clearly hear the water pipes when someone turns on the shower through the wall. The pros are that it's close to the station, and there's a supermarket and a bookstore nearby. There's also a local breakfast spot nearby that's cheap and delicious.

Tainan's He Ri Hotel and Chiayi's Nikko Light Travel (Huang Shi Guang) Both are clean, comfortable, and quiet. Tainan's He Ri Hotel is just a 3-minute walk from Shuixian Temple and Yongle Market, which are famous for their ancient city delicacies! Nikko Light Travel in Chiayi is also about a 3-minute walk from Wenhua Road Night Market! It's super convenient, just a 5-minute journey from both Chiayi Train Station and Chiayi HSR Station! Perfect for solo backpackers. I'd give both hotels an 85 out of 100, almost a 90. I don't think anyone who stays here would be disappointed! Next time I'm in Tainan or Chiayi, I'll definitely choose these two again, or perhaps other accommodations recommended by Trip. I think both are excellent choices for backpackers.

the room had a strong wooden smell, was quite noticeable and made the room feel less fresh. the bathroom cleanliness was not up to standard.

It's located at a prime location near the City center (near Chiayi Metro), great for a pit stop before heading up to Alishan! (if you are travelling using the highspeed railway remember to take the free bus service to city center). The shower and facilities are adequate and we had a great sleep too.
