Hotels Near Hillsborough Park in Christchurch

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights just recently, first arrived at the hotel, the reception was polite enough but not as helpful as any front desk staff coud be. The room was clean and comfy, location was fantastic, environment was superb (quite, few hote guests). But somehow my wife lost her wedding ring from our room. We only noticed by the end of the day, and should have picked up earier. Mr. Sui Beng Teh, the hotel manager, made it even worse from a travellers point of view. He has the worse attitude to the whole incident, instead of offering his empathy, he pushed responsibility back to the hotel guests who lost the wedding ring in his room at his hotel. His passive aggression is throughout all the poor google review! He reacted bluntly when questioned about CCTV other than the door access record he could provide immediately, being agreesive at his answer and attitude towards to someone who turned over the room to just look for the missing ring. He was not friendly, empathatic nor welcoming despit he is in hospitality industry. Im not blaming at anyone here or making any accusation on anyone but he as the hotel manager was the only one we could seek help for in a foreign country, and he expected us undedstanding how police and system worked here. To us, he made us sound like ****** and being forgetful on our own properties.

I booked a private double room and wasn't expecting a good sleep because people going up & down the staircase sounded like a herd of rhino's. However, the quiet curfew of 10pm was adhered to and I enjoyed the best sleep I've had in the last 2 months (including my bed at home). The kitchen has plenty of space & the lounge has lots of table seating. The bathrooms were clean and the shower pressure was great. The location of the hostel is fantastic but street parking is metered and limited between 9am-6pm. I arrived on Waitangi Day when parking is free & only stayed 1 night so that worked well. But if you were staying longer finding free parking could be annoying so better to find an all day free spot the night before or leave it in a 24hr parking block. There are free streets but be mindful of residents.

Excellent location to explore Christchurch attractions. Very clean and well appointed room for an excellent price (I was wondering what It may be getting into). The room quality was a 3+ star for US standards. The only negative is the lack of parking (only offstreet parking or may have to drive a block away for parking). The clean room, friendly staff and excellent location and the overall niceness of Christchurch and it's people in general made us quickly get over the initial stress of trying to find a place to park. Accomodation is in a great location. Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. Second time staying, last visit was 5 years ago. This time we stayed with our 2 young children. Advertised as having ‘air-conditioning’ which one would assume was heating. There was nothing like an air-conditioning unit in our 2 bedroom apartment. A small fan heater plugged into the wall was all. Not ideal with small children. Dangerous and also our apartment was freezing - especially being June. Thankfully beds were warm and comfortable and an extra blanket was provided for both bedrooms. Door to bedroom 2 was locked with a key from the outside. Which meant we had to call reception after one of us shut the bedroom door and couldn’t get back in. Staff attended immediately which was great, they were able to unlock the door however door knob was jammed which meant you could not shut the bedroom door or you would be locked in or out again. Had to place a bag at the door to ensure it wouldn’t be shut. Otherwise it’s a convenient place to stay. If you care about aesthetics it’s a little dated and bathroom grout is a bit mouldy.

The loveliest - particular thanks to Sam - front desk staff (and efficient too). Excellent location, only a short walk to the centre, and very pleasant if you go through the park. There is also a bus stop directly outside; it will take you to the centre, or go to the bus station and take a trip to Sumner or Lyttleton - both worth a visit. Rooms are spacious and clean, beds comfortable. For some reason though, complimentary water and crisps only appeared on our first day! Useful to have a guest laundry, but be warned there is only one machine for all floors... The kitchen area is fine, but not for those who want to cook up a storm - you need to ask for pots and pans. Not a problem for us as we preferred to eat out (try Rangoon Ruby nearby, good, if somewhat 'neutralized' flavours, as the waitress herself put it!) . Overall a really pleasant stay in a very interesting city.

The location was good. There are marts and shopping facilities nearby, plenty of parking spaces, and light cleaning. It was nice to have a kitchen where you can cook lightly, a separate toilet, and hot water.

Wow. Thought everything looked okay, until i had a proper look, apon arrival staff were not easily accessible and no where to be seen. Looking further into the room first off and the most important to note the curtains along with the windows were moldy!!!!! And had yellow stains on them! In the kitchen nothing matched not the cutlery cups etc along with sugar salt + pepper being in werid different containers. The shower still had bits of hair in it from the previous person, the roof was dirty and the door had a big dirty brown discoloured patch on it. While showering i also noticed that all three vents/ fans in the bathroom were full of dust, and the place i can see definitely needs a deep clean and vacuum!! Sadly that was not all. I know that its a little cheaper than other places but i still expect a high level of cleanliness especially as I’m paying to feel comfortable and stay here. The only really good things i have to say is the room, kitchen and bathroom are a good size, the owner i assume was nice when i saw them, there is free wifi and parking and the room was quite warm overnight. Personally wouldn’t stay again if i could help it

Everything about Lylo Christchurch has been good except there is no storage room to keep your luggage, however locker is there to rent with $2 per hour. Room is really clean and neat, comfy, everything just perfect (except the walking distance to airport need around 15 mins and is pretty straightforward right from behind the hostel) . Overall all has been a good experience, thanks Lylo!

It's my last stop before I fly back home for good after a 2 weeks holiday in NZ. It's a total disaster experience as the lady restaurant manager (working on 23 May 2023, 9pm), was plain rude when I approached her politely wanting to ask her whether the restaurant was still operating since it was late already. She was then holding a tray of empty cups, gave me a stare, and whispered an insincere 'sorry' with a frustrated facial and dashed right past me. Mind you, there was only 1 table of 2 guests in the entire restaurant. Not wanting to spoil our mood further, I have decided to walk away calmly, be the bigger self, and head to the bar instead. Honestly, it was totally not the busiest day since it's a Tuesday evening, the bartender was so impatient in trying to wait for us to make our orders (we are only ordering 2 drinks my dear), he wasn't helpful in trying to provide alternative (since one of the drinks we wanted is OOS) or wait for JUST another minute for us to look through the short food menu quickly to decide what food we wanted to add on to our order. He quickly decided to push us to the restaurant if we wanted food. Hello? If we were ordering drinks at the bar, why would we want to order bar food to eat at the restaurant? Perhaps we aren't looking too groomed to garner his prestigious service that's why he was pushing us away? My goodness... this is the worst ever experience I had in my entire stay here. Every other accommodation service staff we have met was friendly, polite, and treats us with loving respect. I honestly do not expect a reputable hotel to have such horrible service.

The hotel was booked in advance, but something happened in the middle. The customer service was very nice and responsible, and it was properly resolved. I live relatively close to the lake. It's clean and sanitary. I can cook. Overall, I'm quite satisfied.
