Hotel was spectacular, bed was really comfy. The customer service was outstanding i woukd recommended to anyone and i would definitely stay again

My 3rd time staying… this time my room was in the courtyard… I much prefer being in the main hotel… breakfast has also been scaled back… no mushrooms as a vegetarian I love mushrooms at breakfast… no marmite sachets for my toast… no Nutella sachets for my daughter, these weee the little extra touches we have previously enjoyed at breakfast…. But otherwise what we did have as vegetarians was tasty.

Nice hotel could do with a lick of paint in the corridors also jacuzzi wasn’t working and went specially for that so was a bit disappointed. Overall decent hotel

A top-notch hotel. I visited the photos of the castle family members. I felt eerie when walking in the corridor. As soon as I checked into the room, the smoke detector buzzed three times. The security guard rushed in and couldn't solve it. In the morning, only our room didn't have hot water for showering. I guess he's possessed by some ghost.

Having stayed here previously and always having wonderful experiences where we felt welcome and part of the Mercure family, it made sense to book this venue for dinner, bed and breakfast, to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary . We truly received the VIP treatment it was clear the staff knew we were celebrating so many well wishes! The reception was very busy as there was a Harley Davidson convention, so a high volume of check ins, the reception team were not flustered but worked through with cheerful dispositions and timely efficiently - well done Becky and Chiti. Sarah and Emily ensured our room was welcoming with a Dunkenhalgh anniversary card and there were some behind the scenes team members with towel sculptures we did not have the heart to dismantle ❤️ Due to the aforementioned convention, which added lots of personality and education to our stay, the bar was very busy due to the operational effectiveness of the team everyone was served within a short time frame resulting in a festive and fun atmosphere. Ben showed us to our sparkling dinner table and took some photos for our memory chest, then ensured we had the critical celebratory drinks and the wonderful Chloe advised us of the dinner package and our further options. Service was at a steady pace allowing us to chat and rest between courses at no point did we feel under pressure to vacate the restaurant although it was always at capacity. The food offer and value had definitely moved up a bar we were spoilt for choice and really did need time to savour each mouthful ridiculously the gravy was the show stealer for me As ever we visited the spa and steam room again lots of work has been actioned here and it was a very relaxing experience setting the pace for our weekend. Breakfast was very well stocked with great variety and it was lovely to receive the welcome back from Aziz a long standing and real ambassador for the brand.

We would just love to say thank you. We stopped over here on our way back from our elopement at Gretna Green and they went above and beyond and made everything perfect. The had gone to the effort of decorating our room and delivering us a beautiful afternoon tea. A massive thank you from us Phil & Lorraine

The rooms are very very dated, we were "upgraded" to an executive room (we appreciated this thank you) but it was very dated, the bathroom was rather dirty and we could close the bathroom door because the handle was coming away from the actual door. You can hear everything in the hallway so when people were leaving or going back to their rooms it was obscenely loud. We were also the other side from the resturant and heading over to breakfast we had to cut through a conference that was happening which was amusing but also a nightmare to navigate (I'd probably also point out people from the conference didn't just stay in the conference room / where the food was put out but also all out the front of the hotel and all out the back in the tabled courtyard area - I'd probably suggest maybe people were given areas they could utilise and not wherever they fancied) The breakfast was a 5/10 - nothing special. We went quite early and everything was luke warm and a bit lack luster Dinner the night before was okay, the menu is small but the food was quite tasty. The service left room to be desired - I found the main lady who was seating people to be rude and seemed to have a chip on her shoulder (could have just been a bad day) The spa portion - if that's what your going for isn't very good. The pool is so/so - the jacuzzi jet area is just cold and part of the pool and nothing to write home about. The sauna / steam room area felt dull and in need of a make over. If your looking for a spa escape there are much much much better places out there There was a lady on the desk (I'm so sorry I don't remember your name - glasses, short black bob .. maybe Chuti) she was so friendly, so lovely! she is fantastic at her job and deserves recognition!

We decided to stay at this hotel when traveling up from Kent to visit some friends, we stayed in a room in the courtyard area which was a little quieter than the main hotel as there where functions on both Friday and Saturday night, room was clean and tidy with a comfortable bed only downside was the laundry carts being pushed by just before 8am on the Saturday morning. Used the spa and pool in the afternoon great experience all be it with a £10 charge per adult . On the Friday night we opted to eat in the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised the food was reasonably priced for a hotel and very tasty probably the best pork belly I’ve ever had. Breakfast buffet was average and a little overpriced at £16.50 per person Overall a good weekend and will use this hotel again when visiting the area next year .

Our room was in the former stables and it was comfortable with a up to date bathroom. The bed was large and comfortable but the room was a bit cold and there was no heating/air conditioning control in the room. The spa facilities were excellent and the restaurant served delicious food in the evening and there was a good breakfast buffet in the morning. The staff gave a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble.

Appalling stay. Our room was covered in mould, hairs, dirt and stains None of our reservations were booked as prepaid. No nut allergen information on coffees. Could've killed my partner with a severe allergy. All to be offered a £40. Refund.
