Mercure Hotel Severinshof Koeln City

This was my first time back since my military days and having travelled through Germany in the 3 years I was here, I haven’t changed my opinion that Cologne is the best city to visit. This time I was here for the FIBO fair and stayed at the Mercure for the first time. As expected it was first class and the hospitality of its staff was impeccable. The hotel is out to the west which means a 20-30 minute tram ride into the main area around the cathedral and river but once you master the payment system you will enjoy the experience, with the trams being on time throughout. The only criticism is that being a fitness person and witnessing others like me staying at the hotel, the gym was poor consisting of only 3 cardio machines in a tiny room. A small set of dumbbells would be a welcome addition and would have justified a 5 star instead of the 4 I have given. Otherwise well done to all the staff for a highly enjoyable stay. Mercure Hotel Koeln West

Hotel is located about 6km from the city center on a busy intersection, no public transport nearby. Car parking is 10€/24h, not the most expensive but a shame they don't offer this service free of charge. Edeka supermarket, KFC and McDonald's right across the road. Rooms are spacious but with carpet, pillow 'menu' available, fridge and coffee facilities in the room. No toiletries in the bathroom though, would have made a difference in service. Vending machines in the lobby are really overpriced, 3€ for a small botlle of lemonade is too high. We didn't use the sauna, but we were told by reception it was open. Breakfast was ok but didn't really get replenished after 10.20, a shame. No more boiled eggs, pancakes were cold. It did have smoked salmon, which I can always appreciate. Overall, we had a good night sleep, but as soon as you open the window the outside noise from traffic is a downer. Not sure though why this hotel is rated 4*, let's say its a solid 3*+

Cologne City Center
This is a hotel chain, and came to Cologne and chose this brand. The single room is not good, the facilities are not good, and later the toilet problem changed the room, or the sanitation was not good. Inferior to that of Zurich. The service is good. The unit price does not match the facilities at all. It made me afraid to choose this brand in other German cities. Ctrip has also solved this problem. Location can come from the train station.

The Hotel is located at the heart of the town which is a huge plus as everything is accessible and you do not even need to hire a car. The hotel staff are so friendly and helpful and try their best to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable for example the breakfast staff realized that we are eating vegetarian food they surprised us by kindly providing more options to give us plenty to choose from. The cleanliness of the hotel is impeccable. We will definitely return to our favorite hotel. Rania AL-Awadi
