We booked the Jacuzzi Kingsize Double room, we got told the total of the stay would £126 for bed and breakfast however we were charged £140. When walking into the room we were quite happy with everything however we then noticed that all of the water was really yellow. In the toilet, sink, shower water and bath water. We asked at reception which we were told this was quite normal and that it was safe to even drink. For £140 we were expecting a refreshing stay however didn’t even want to use the jacuzzi as the water looked dirty. We have stayed in various locations of the Lake District and have never come across anything like this before. Quite disappointing. The food was really nice, we would return to use the cafe but would not stay overnight again. Too expensive for what it is.

Fabulous pub, service spot on food was gorgeous, the vegan chilli was so tasty and fresh, maybe there could be more vegan choices?

What an amazing find! Spectacular valley location surrounded by picturesque tall hills. Evening meal was gorgeous, with plenty to choose from on the menu. Variety of choices, from simple meals, to an extensive range of pizza, and more extravagant dishes too. We couldn't decide on dessert, so ordered 3 to share, all were delicious. Very friendly and attentive staff provide prompt service with a smile, where nothing is too much trouble. Good choice of nice wines, and a well stocked bar. Super comfy bed in our large double room, two person jacuzzi in the bathroom is awesome. Room & bedding all very clean. Will definitely return, this place is a must! Thank you from Craig & Jeremy xx

We booked 3 nights in the spa room, with breakfast and supper included. We also got a packed lunch on one day. We later found out this was the last weekend they were open until later in January, and in fact we were the only guests on our last night. We were still made to feel welcome, and the service was proactive. This is an excellent location for walks, and the hotel caters to walkers/hikers. The room was cosy, warm and comfortable, yes, a little tired, but quiet, good bed, large TV, everything works. We slept very well. The jacuzzi bath was very welcome after a cold wet day tramping around the Hardknott Roman fort and pass; the only regret is that we couldn't see anything out of the roof window because of the cloud cover. On a clear night, this would be spectacular. Breakfast offered a good range of meals, and the evening meals were also very tasty. The mutton chili sounded a bit strange, but was fantastic--not too spicy, flavourful, and a healthy portion size. The only downside of food is that the packed lunch (sandwich, biscuit, fruit) felt a little overpriced, especially after we realised (the next day) that we hadn't been given any fruit. However, we didn't want to fuss around packing in our own food, and there's nowhere else to buy sandwiches.

I stayed at Woolpack while doing circular walk around the Lakes with my 11 year old son. Having had a hideous walk in the wind and rain from Torver to Eskdale over the Old Man we were delighted to get to Woolpack and were given a warm welcome on our arrival. Given its location it’s very much a walkers pub and is well geared up for walkers arriving west through with a drying room and no judgement on muddy boots, etc. The room was quite tatty and in need of some TLC however the bathroom was more like the standard of a high end boutique hotel! It was lovely and very welcomed given we were cold and wet. The pub was great with lovely local beer and great atmosphere, 100% authentic and what a good Lakeland pub should be. We had wood fired pizza as the main meals had stopped as we had arrived late and it was very nice. A highlight was undoubtedly the breakfast which was delicious and again more akin to a higher end hotel - lovely local ingredients beautifully presented. The real highlight was the slightly eccentric chap that looked after us and offered a true example of great hospitality! We would 100% stay again.

Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights stayed in the room with spar bath room 8..whole bedroom is full of mold everywhere you looked, walls ceiling and blind, thread bare carpet just felt so dirty . Breakfast was good but quite a bit of wait plus leaves all over the floor for the full 3 morning was there. Didnt realise untill we got home they had charged us £10 a night more than they quoted on the phone when booking. Price started at £126 then went to £130 by confirmation email just assumed that was charge per night for a dog but the bill they had charged £140

Extremely friendly and helpful staff, without exception. Food was excellent, some really different options as well as the usual run of the mill pub food. Piping hot breakfast, top quality. Clean comfortable bedroom and modern bathroom. Can't fault this gem of a pub, perfect loaction for hiking in the area.
