Just returned from a 2 night stay at The Rudloe from a Wowcher deal and we had an excellent stay! If I had read the reviews before booked, probably would have avoided, but we had a great time. The lady and man on the reception desk were very friendly and welcoming. All the staff we came in contact with at dinner and breakfast were again very friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent quality! For dinner we both had the duck gnocchi on 1st night - didn’t upgrade/add any sides but on 2nd night 1 of us upgraded for the steak and added a side each - which were excellent. For breakfast, again the 2 gentleman running breakfast were excellent. The avocado and poached eggs was excellent and my partner upgraded to the full English both days which was excellent and very generous. You don’t have to upgrade/add sides if don’t want to, didn’t feel pressured to at all but if want to add/upgrade to something a little nicer option is there. There was a £2pp cover charge for breakfast and dinner each day. Which was happy to pay as food and service was excellent. We were in a room off the main house, very spacious, nicely decorated and large shower. We got a bus into Bath both days (£6pp for a return). Bus stop is right outside and very easy. The stay was exceptionally good value for the money paid. The only negative thing was the hairdryer in the room, wasn’t very powerful and only seemed to blow out cool air and did take quite a while to dry my hair. But that was the only bad thing can think off! Would love to visit again! Excellent location for visiting Bath.

Booked as a two night package with dinner included. Checked reviews after booking and was slightly nervous as a result. On arrival met by Marco PW's son who was charming and welcoming. Hotel decor is amazing to me, but described by Mr PW, who we met there, as a simple home. It is relaxed and welcoming and so was he. Room in main house was luxurious, food was excellent, staff friendly and attentive, overall an incredible stay. Met some fellow guests who stay regularly and they were equally baffled by the bad reviews. Checked out to find a fellow guest complaining about the £2 per head cover charge applied to meals...... This was shown on the menus. Yes £2. The explanation didn't appease. This gave me an inkling as to why some reviews were bad. Finding fault for anything with no appreciation of where you are staying, the service or general standards. An incredible Hotel that must have incredible overheads. We will be returning. Thank you to all at The Rudloe. If you agree with the £2 complaint. Don't go. Stay home, be miserable. You will ruin my next stay. I'll pay your two quid. Ssshhh

Dreadful communication. Hotel shut & locked up when we arrived. Receptionist eventually arrived after nearly 2 hours.Limited menu was the same for both nights . Ran out of milk & sugar . Meals rushed. Fawlty Towers comes to mind! Avoid if you expect 4 star experience

The hotel is beautifully decorated with interesting sitting rooms full of quirky objects. The rooms in the annex are equally tasteful in decoration. Giant TV comfortable bed and pillows. Tea and coffee making facilities. The only negative was the room was cold. There was an ineffective heater in the wardrobe but the quilt was heavy so not cold in bed. The rooms have Venetian blinds, whilst looking good let in lots of light in the morning for light sleepers. There have been earlier reviews about not being allowed to take any food or drink into the rooms but this was not mentioned to us. Diner and breakfast fabulous but steak and sides all come as extras. The gnocchi was superb as was the Bakewell tart. Would recommend as a special overnight treat.

Some good points but many more bad points. The staff were very pleasant and polite, we can't fault that. The food was mostly very good, as expected seeing as the hotel is owned by Marco Pierre-White, though we know that he doesn't do the cooking himself, it is his team who do all that. The location of the hotel was perfect for what we wanted to do - visit the Roman Bath house in Bath. We were both given a complimentary cocktail on arrival (though this had to be claimed by 5pm on arrival day or you just wouldn't get one). There wasn't any choice of cocktails, you got what you are given. I'm not sure but I think it was a Mimosa as we were just handed it by the barman.... The gardens were typically of a Roman style, not surprising given the location and also MPW's heritage as he is half Italian I believe. They were nice, we sat in them for our arrival cocktail. They were a bit overgrown but we could still sit relatively comfortably at one of the tables. The food was good, nicely presented and always arrived very hot, and it kept the heat too. The menu was limited though, which we expected as our whole stay was bought through Wowcher and didn't expect the full whack anyway. I had poached egg one morning and part of the egg white was still not quite cooked, I put that bit aside but I'm not sure if I'd already eaten any uncooked egg before I noticed, and strangely enough I had a bad case of sickness and diarrhoea later in the middle of the night. Sides are all at an extra cost, so if, like my husband, you wanted potatoes and veg with your steak you will have to fork out an extra £5 - per side. So it cost an extra £10 just for my husband to have any veg with his steak! The steak itself was excellent, according to my husband. The breakfasts incur the same additional £5 charge if you want fresh orange juice with it, so again another £10 as we both like orange juice with our breakfasts. You do get complimentary tea or coffee with breakfast but neither of us drink that and the waitress looked at us as if we had two heads when we said no thanks to that and asked for some OJ instead. You'd think she would have just replaced the tea/coffee with the orange juice at no extra charge but that didn't happen. The cost of alcoholic drinks was ridiculous too, if you wanted another cocktail aside from your free welcome one it would have cost another £12.50, a bottle of beer is £7.50 and just a diet coke (unsure if it was a can, bottle or even draught - we didn't try to find out) was £4.95!! So if the two of us had wanted to stay in the fig tree garden and just have a few drinks without going elsewhere it could have easily cost us £100, just for one evening's drinks. But if you're thinking "Well we can just go somewhere local, buy a few cans and take them back to the room" - yes you could but if you leave ANY signs such as bottle tops or empty cans, you will get charged £40 corkage. So take any rubbish (food waste too) and put it straight

AVOID at all costs!! Had a nights stay and 3 course meal gifted with woucher, NO confirmation received for booked reservation, tried contacting the hotel for over a week before our stay phone lines are automated can’t speak to a human and emails are hardly responded to, unable to locate our booking - blaming woucher which we redeemed with correctly and had to confirm with hotel, finally got advised to book else where as they was fully booked which was a LIE!! They clearly make more money out of bookings received through their website than their deal with woucher! Due to arrive today still no confirmation or reply - so cancelled plans and asked for their complaints policy to then receive a phone call stating they have found our booking miraculously but unfortunately they are fully booked LOL stated she will look for a cancellation whilst on the phone to me, whilst i can clearly see they have rooms available! A little to late awful customer service we was travelling from Wales and really been looking forward to our getaway for them to ruin it! AVOID at all costs plenty of other lovely places around who value their customers.
