New Holmwood Hotel

Fabulous location right on the beach and a lovely easy walk into Cowes. Room adequate, floor was a bit “sticky”. It was during peak heatwave whilst we were there and though the hotel reception and corridors were very hot and stuffy our room was cool enough. We had breakfast at the hotel both mornings, there were classic full English buffet hot items but the fruit and cereal option was limited. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is being rescued so it’s very basic. Bar and restaurant closed. Bit 1970s. Good luck to the new owners. They use minimum staff and cannot yet exploit the real potential. Eg hairdryer broke down immediately and no-one on desk. You get what you pay for which is fair, but minimal. It’s really look after yourself AB&B. Would I stay again. Yes if budget was the big issue. No if we wanted atmosphere and attention.

The hotel is very strange and you have to check in online then you get given a code walk to your room and on the wall next to your room is a lockbox where you enter that code to get your key to get into the room all of that takes a very long time and it feels more like a Airbnb rental than an actual hotel. The bar has no drinks to sell and we soon found out in the town that the hotel has recently shut down and reopened under new ownership. My hunch would be the new owners have never run a hotel before.

Great location for walking to Cowes centre and for the chain ferry to East Cowes. Comfortable room although very hot and impossible to turn the one radiator (in bedroom) off. Decent breakfast although some of the cooked items could have been hotter. Overall I would recommend and be happy to stay again.

Beautiful location. A great base to spend a nice IOW holiday

We booked 2 sea view rooms for 3 nights. Only one room had a sea view and the bathroom in that room had black mould around the ceiling. The other room had a very old mattress and the bedding was old and thin. The pillows in that room were flat. We checked out after 1 night and will not be back. Whilst the staff were friendly, this hotel needs refurbishment, new mattresses, new duvets, pillows, blankets and linen. Mould is injurious to health and no hotel of the calibre that this hotel claims to be should have it.

Short stay Brilliant location and all staff were helpful and friendly. Good parking outside. Restaurant dinner was excellent. Hotel felt comfortable and relaxing with good facilities and fabulous views of the Solent
