I would give the bedroom a 3, and restaurant a very good 4/5, so overall it is a 4. Stayed in a twin bedroom, check in was easy and friendly. Bedroom cleanliness let it down, sink was dirty and cracked, bath the same. Mattess was split into singles right next to each other. However, mattress protectors were just laid on top of the mattress, not on properly. When I tried to put them on, they were too small, mattress under was stained with lots of various shapes of hair. Bedding was lovely and fresh. Dinner and breakfast were great, such lovely staff both times, very accommodating if a dish needed adjusting. Breakfast had lots of lovely touches like own honey and sourdough bread, fresh croissant and delicious looking muffins. Hotel itself is in a peaceful location eventhough just off the road, lovely building too. Nice touches like umbrellas and wellies at the back entrance for guests to use.

Returned from a two night stay to celebrate my wife's birthday, totally enjoyed our stay, mostly due to the staff who where not only friendly but very attentive and of course very professional in all the departments. Special thanks to Natalia, Anu, Shubham, Jacob, Janette, Meagan & Sanjay. You all were excellent keep up the good work. The food was of a high standard and enjoyed all our meals. Recommendations for anyone during your stay, book the Falcon Walk tour with Stephen in advance, it is fascinating lasts one hour and a great experience, well worth the cost. The small stairs might be a problem for persons with any disabilities, and all rooms do not have a walk in shower. All in all a very relaxing break in a great location.

ROOM At check in, we did have a bit of a disappointment at the start of our 3 night stay as the room allocated was not the one we had booked but we were moved to an acceptable, alternative room on the second day. Both rooms were generally well decorated, equipped and furnished although the first room (in the same room category) had only one visible, double socket in the whole room. FOOD The food at both breakfast and dinner, was excellent with very hearty portions. The food was fresh and generally appeared to have been sourced locally. For the trip, we were meeting up with friends we hadn't seen for a while and ordered the Beef Wellington for our "Gala" dinner on the second night. This was a hefty portion indeed and not sure how this could be consumed by only two people? However, a separate, lighter menu in the bar would have been good as alternative option, as we were not always up for a full meal on every night of a 3 night stay. STAFF All the staff we encountered in both the restaurant and reception were friendly and helpful when we needed them. FACILITIES/LOCATION There are lots of lovely open fires to sit beside and cosy corners which make the bar area and restaurant very comfortable. The hotel is also in a well placed location and we enjoyed lovely visits to Hill Top, Blackwell and Dove Cottage as well as a lovely walk, all within easy travelling distance. GENERAL EXPERIENCE Overall we had a lovely trip at the Wild Boar Estate with our friends, spoiled only by the selfish antics of the couple in the room above us on our last night. The sound proofing between Room 38 and the room above require immediate improvement as we had a very uncomfortable night’s sleep on Friday 14th/Saturday 15th March being forced to listen to the (shouting/screaming and thumping etc.) taking place in the room above. Unfortunately, not much was left to the imagination! We had nowhere else to go and being forced to listen to this until 2p.m. in the morning and again at 6:30a.m. was very disturbing. At one point, we weren’t sure if the female involved was being attacked due to the noise she was making. This is simply not acceptable and really spoiled our experience. Our friends in Room 39 were also made aware of the situation to some extent when they were in the bathroom of their room. I would be very surprised if other guests in the nearby rooms weren't aware of the situation too but, like us, probably too embarrassed/didn’t know what to do in the middle of the night?

What a great couple of nights we have just had at the Wild Boar. The hotel is set a short way out of Bowness and ideally a car is required to access the surrounding areas. It is set in its own grounds and there are pleasant walks, short or long, depending on what you require. There is adequate parking around the hotel although it does sprawl over several small locations. We were given a room at the back of the hotel and we carried our luggage up several flights of stairs. The room was very pleasant with a large king size plus bed, the wardrobe hanging space was a bit strange. The bathroom had a bath with a shower overhead and was fine for our needs. We ate in the hotel on both nights and the food was fine to good. The fish and chips on the first night was slightly overcooked but all other meals were fine, no complaints at all on the second night. Breakfast on both mornings was outstanding, plentiful selection and big portions. The bar area is very cosy with large leather seats and roaring fires serving their own brewed beer and a fine selection of wines and spirits. However the one consistent and pleasing aspect was the service. Every member of staff, in every role was polite and professional and we had some good laughs with them. I would not hesitate to stay again. Thank you

Anyone that likes the flavour of wood and fire will be in heaven here. Everything is cooked over the grill or prepared in the smokehouse outside. Smoke being my favourite flavour - i was in heaven. The hotel was immaculate , bedrooms very clean and the bar / restaurant still in xmas decor. They brew their own ales so we went straight to the bar to get started on the beer. The menus are great , there`s so much to choose from. Unfortunately our first choices were sold out after the new year rush but that couldn`t be helped. What we chose was really tasty. Wine was very well priced and plenty to choose from in all price ranges. Service was slow but it was a few days into the new year and staff were thin on the ground due to xmas working rotas.....understood. Main question "would we return" ? - Absolutely , its a nice place to escape , the prices are good , the food extremely comforting and apparently the smoked afternoon savoury teas are to die for. Plus i must get a tour of the smokehouse next visit. Thanks to all.

I had the pleasure of having the Afternoon Tea at the Wild Boar Estate and it was amazing. The decor is superb and very welcoming, especially the lovely open cooking hearth, which was a delight to be warmed by while enjoying one of the fine ales available. The food was both delicious and creative and left the two of us having nothing but compliments for all the eats on offer. I can also recommend the little beer shots or beer bat as it's actually called, a nice sample of what's available, all of which are very enjoyable. We will definitely be returning.
