Great weekend at the Royal Umpire holiday park with my 2 children. We stayed in one of the smaller pods which was perfect for us. Well equipped with toaster, kettle, microwave and heater. The park felt very safe and my children loved playing in the park and scooting round. I would definitely return .

Stayed in one of the hive pods. Great little place to stay with all the essentials and fantastic heating. Lovely and clean and perfect for our one night getaway. Site was great for kids, able to cycle around safely and enjoy playing outdoors.

We did a weekend camping here and it’s been a great experience we loved every minute and will definitely be returning. Staff was all lovely and helpful. The bins was a little bit of an issue on day 1 but then the lovely staff came around and collected our rubbish for us. The site is basic but still lovely toilets was clean no problem. I think after reading some of the reviews I was a little nervous but honestly I’d not listen.

Toxic place. Left the park last month with shear delight. Cleaner thinks she runs the dump. ?? Kath, the receptionist, acts like she is the captain of the ship, but the ships sinking???. Dirty and needs a full revamp, and that goes for staff!!!! Get someone in who care about the customers and not about themselves. Now, I'm in wigan again and loving life.

Worst campsite we’ve ever been to. Toilet blocks are disgusting, filthy, no toilet paper, weak showers. No bins around. The whole site is extremely run down. Park area and fields are good. But the Best thing was leaving early. Knock it down and start again!

I came to The Royal Umpire with my Sister and Niece, what a hidden gem! I absolutely loved it and will definitely be returning. We stayed for 3 nights and took a barbecue, taught my niece all the basics of glamping and she loved the simplicity of the experience, no phones out, no social media, games and family bonding. There is a shower and toilet block and an area to wash dishes. Pods have a fridge, freezer and most cutlery. Beds were comfortable despite looking like they would be uncomfortable. We spoke to quite a few fellow glampers who were lovely and agreed they would return. Staff were fantastic very friendly and chatty. My niece loved the play area and I loved the big field for a leisurely stroll and picnic. There is a pub for food a 5 min walk and a beautiful neighbouring village in Croston that we ventured out to for tea one night at The Wheafsheaf (lovely food), another evening we ventured to a fabulous Italian in Eccleston (about a 10min drive) Verdes Restaurant. Well worth a visit take the kids and go back to basics and bond over a family chat, would even suit a Couple as it is romantic.

After reading reviews, thought this would be ideal for 1 yr old’s first camping trip. I booked over the phone and the lady who dealt with the booking was professional and accommodating - the exact opposite of the experience to follow. - Had to wait over ten minutes in sweltering heat in the car before getting through barrier on arrival as nobody was manning reception during allocated check-in time. - check in wad totally pointless, just got handed a map. Did not ask for any details. - We could’ve just been wildly unlucky but the camping field had several very, very large groups who were each seemingly attempting to out-do each other as to who could be the most inconsiderate campers. This involved: one man allowing his toddler to steer his 4x4 at considerable speed around the campsite. a group of motocross bikers frequently revving and driving very loudly on and off the site somebody on an electric bike driving across and around the field at top speed with an infant on the handlebars there must’ve once been many “no campfires” signs around the field, as I kept coming across remnants of them. They had all been smashed and people were just doing whatever they pleased as regards lighting fires. one couple who were allowing their toddler to control the volume and radio station selection of their car radio with all the doors open (maximum volume, endless switching). one group had cars of teenagers endlessly arriving and leaving, driving over the field and blasting out music each time. music being played loudly from car stereos until well after 11pm. teenagers on the play area, quite literally screaming and shouting until well past midnight. cars arriving on the field into early hours car alarms being set off. toilet definitely not clean, one cubicle locked/out of use and clearly flooded, another with actual faeces on the stall wall and floor. dogs barking and people shouting back at these dogs - this went on routinely between 1 and 3am. the campsite is immediately flanked by, on one side, a farm with noisy animals and, on the other, a huge construction site where land is being levelled by heavy machinery which started promptly at 8pm. All in all a horrendous night at a nightmare site. I did not feel safe in the tent, as a very experienced camper, due to the dangerous antics of other campers and their vehicles. As I said, we could’ve just been unlucky and happened to book on the same Sunday night as an Inconsiderate’s Convention, but the sheer size and number of the groups suggested otherwise. Would not visit again, would definitely not recommend and would not trust “Harrison’s Holidays” with any of my family’s previous vacation time as they quite clearly do not care about campers or, as the fellow on reception calls them, “tenters”.

We booked to stay at the royal umpire for the weekend, first impressions was good. The sun was shining, children were happy playing. What really let the site down was the cleanliness and poor facilities. Saturday morning I took my son to the toilet and shower blocks as he was desperate for the toilet to find not a single roll of toilet paper in any of the cubicles! They were filthy wouldn’t shower without anything on your feet, didn’t expect this as the site seemed quite. And wasn’t overly busy. Very disappointed as the children enjoyed themselves and made friends.
