Stayed for one night on a road trip. The staff were all friendly and polite and there was ample free parking. The room had its own separate entrance, which was very convenient. The bed was comfortable and warm. The room was slightly cold during the evening and the bathroom was slightly tired. I was also not convinced the room was 100% clean. A good cooked breakfast with a choice of juice and cereals was also included with the price for room. The hotel location is ideal for accessing various beautiful stretches of the Dumfries & Galloway coastline.

Miserable business owner who could barely raise a smile upon entry, zero people skills..does he not realise you are supposed to welcome customers with warmth and respect? Make them feel a focal point not an inconvenience. The food was well below average , frozen chips, the burger was pre packed, the chicken was overcooked and dry with little meat to the bone, and the steak pie was flavourless and pastry fell apart and was uncooked at the bottom Also as another review pointed out the chips I suspect are not gluten free as told. Celiacs BEWARE. Decor very outdated and in dire need of refurbishment. Will not return.

Booked 3 nights but checked out after 1 night. Room was in a very dated annexe with what seemed no insulation. Windows single glazed and covered in mould. Very tatty altogether. 2 out of 4 lights worked and one power point (none anywhere near the bed). Had to sleep in my dressing gown with a very old blanked on top of bed that I had found in the closet. Some friends staying found an old duvet in their wardrobe which they gave me (clean but old blood stains on it). It was so cold that I couldn't sleep. Shower over the bath was more like a dribble and it was difficult to wash my hair. Went to breakfast desperate for hot coffee. Room was cold and was given instant coffee which I would never dream of drinking. Breakfast I chose 2 poached eggs, a tomato and mushrooms, which smelt terrible and all served on a cold plate. My colleagues staying also had mushrooms which they couldn't eat. We made the decision to pack up and leave. Couldn't find owner as we saw him leave the premises but later he appeared in the car park as we were leaving. I raised my concerns but he didn't have much to say and never offered any of us a refund/part refund. Very disappointed and to be avoided.

First the good news, the breakfast was excellent, the food was well prepared and served with a smile. I’m afraid the rest isn’t good. From the outside the hotel looks great and even at the reception it’s good. But then you are taken into an annex for the bedrooms. Our room had flaking paint work and the shower was possibly the worst we have ever experienced, it was a hand held attachment over a bath. The grab handle was loose and there was no anti slip mat. There was shampoo and body lotion but no shower gel. The bedroom needed a complete redecoration. Evening meal was offered on our own in the cold conservatory or in the second part of the bar which was also cold. The fire was lit in the main part of the bar and the few tables beside the fire were occupied. We had the Thai green curry which was weird, it had potatoes and carrots in it and it was the consistency of soup. Not a meal we would repeat. The John Smiths Smoothflow was terrible. A shame really because the owner seems a nice guy but the place really needs a lot of money spent on it.

This is very lovely rest stop along the way. First, the breakfasts were absolutely spectacular, freshly cooked thick bacon, very tasty mushrooms and local fried eggs. We even sampled the local favourites of Haggis and Blood Pudding. As to dinner in the small pub, a crackling fireplace, great company and spectacular food. Well done.

The staff were very attentive and the breakfast was quite delicious but this hotel needs a really good overhaul. The decor in the bedroom was very tired , we also had no hot water in the morning in the bathroom, so shaving was a no-go. The grounds are somewhat scruffy.

Relaxed dining in the conservatory with family. We had 4 different main courses and 4 different desserts. All were decent sized helpings and presented beautifully. The food was delicious, and was presented well. Enough choice for fussy eaters! Service was great with friendly bar staff. Good vale for money although the prices were higher than on the website (it needs updated) .

Visited the hotel whilst touring in our Motorhome. The Clonyard has a few very well set out Motorhome pitches in a field near to the hotel. We ate in the restaurant and food was good. The penang curry and seafood starter were excellent. They welcome dogs too. Staff were accommodating and friendly . Will be back .
