We arrived a little early before check-in and enjoyed a few drinks in the bar which has two functioning fireplaces and a friendly local feeding them logs. The Packhorse is a tastefully modernised hotel with function and dining rooms. In one you can see the steps down to the cellar - the wine list is well represented and a joy to plunder. Our room, Folly (they’ve all got horsey names) had a roll top bath. Toiletries are by Bramley. We were given fresh milk in a little insulated bottle for the coffee machine. Dinner was delightful and served by Amira. We had ham hock terrine with molasses soda bread, an unctuously delicious shepherds pie with mixed greens, then creme brûlée with poached pear and chocolate icecream. We had South Australian Shiraz by Mr Goose and one bottle wasn’t quite enough! Next morning we were served by Becky with a massive East Anglian fry up (“the best ever” he said) and I had sourdough toast with smoked salmon (my idea of the best). There are also plenty of pastries, breads, cereals, yoghurt and fruit to help yourself to. Would we go again? Yes, most definitely!

Absolutely wonderful stay at the packhorse . The room we had in the barn was rustic and quirky and suited all our needs. The food was great and the breakfast was fantastic and HOT. But above all that the staff are brilliant. Attentive and polite at all times . Would we stay again , absolutely. Well done to all.

We stayed here last night. On arrival pub extremely busy being a Sunday but checked in half hour early. We stayed in the Primrose room which was stunning with view over meadow, massive bath!! Downside was above pub so if you're a light sleeper like me be warned it's noisy in evening plus breakfast staff arrive 7am! Breakfast OK my husband enjoyed his I however opted for the smoked salmon scrambled egg the eggs were bland with no flavour think chef needs to source new supplier but our waitress was very nice! Our meal Sunday eve was a roast which was huge but delicious one other critic was no milk supplied in our room for hot beverages but apart from that we do recommend and would return but get an outside room which are smaller but would be quieter

Staff are amazing, certainly service with a smile. Rooms are lovely and Alex and his team helped make our daughters surprise 30th an evening she will never forget Food was great and we loved the beer garden where there was a big window the length of the kitchen so you could see how pristine the kitchen was and the care the chefs ‍ took when preparing, cooking and presenting the food. We will definitely go back again

My daughter found this hidden gem earlier this year and we went back to stay on Easter Sunday. We had some delicious bar snacks for lunch, went on the three churches walk (which was absolutely lovely) then had the most delicious roast dinner in the evening. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was very buzzy. The bedrooms were fabulous and the bed and pillows were so comfy. The only downside in one of the rooms was that it’s above the kitchen and was too warm so an air conditioning unit should really be installed. I certainly wouldn’t want to stay there when it’s hot. But that was the only negative thing. We loved it here and will certainly be returning! Oh and the icing on the cake the next morning was seeing the jockeys practising on the racing course which is a few minutes from the inn. Just awesome! Another thing to note is the lovely private dining room.

I had the best time ever staying here the night before our wedding. From the moment we stepped into the pub/ hotel to the moment I left in my wedding car, it was super special. The food was great and the service second to none, I even got a complimentary glass of champagne on the morning of our wedding. Thank you to all the staff xx

We were a large group for lunch and due to illness and accident werre several short when we arrived for our pre-ordered meal. The staff and Manager could not have been nicer in sorting out the inevitable muddle. I would thoroughly recommend.

We stayed here on the Sunday night 'Bed, Breakfast and Evening Meal' promotion which is excellent value. All the staff from the lady who showed us to our room, the barman, the evening waitress and the breakfast waitress especially were super friendly and helpful. We were given a room upgrade with a roll top bath which was a nice surprise and the room was lovely. The food is pretty good as well. We've tried a few of these Chestnut Inns and this was one of the best although they are very nice places to stay.
