Passing through Datong on my way home, I saw this newly opened hostel with nice decor and decided to give it a try. I've stayed in many hostels elsewhere, and this is only the second one where they ask you to change into slippers right after check-in, the first being Eat Mountain.
I stayed one night and didn't get to explore many of the common areas in detail. My main complaint is that the four-person dorm room is small and has no window. I could reach out from my bed and touch the edge of the opposite bed. The lockers are also small. If all roommates brought large suitcases, I can imagine there'd be no space to even stand.
At check-in, a **zhi** handled the process. Including me, there were only two people in the room, and I was assigned an upper bunk. When there are empty beds, it would be considerate to ask guests if they prefer an upper or lower bunk.
The advantages are that it's newly renovated, so all the facilities are new. The hostel occupies an entire building. The front desk and common areas are on the first floor, and you can take an elevator directly upstairs. The signage and directions are quite clear. The location is excellent, right diagonally opposite the East Gate of the ancient city. The entrance is prominent and easy to find, and there are shared bikes right outside. It's also very close to the direct shuttle service station for the East Gate scenic area, making transportation convenient. The room has fresh air ventilation, and the bedding and mattresses are very comfortable. The common area restrooms and sinks are relatively clean, and I noticed the female area has access control, so the security seems quite high.
Overall, it's good. I'm happy to see such a large-scale hostel in my hometown. If they could optimize some details, I would recommend it.
