Tangfang Courtyard (Datong Old City)

The service was attentive and warm, and they even cooked porridge and dishes for us.

The environment here is great. It's located within the ancient city but away from the super crowded areas, so it's really quiet at night. The only downside is that cars aren't allowed in the ancient city, so dragging luggage can be a bit of a walk. The courtyard is perfect for a chat and a cup of tea; it's quite tranquil. The service was very good. You can tell they put a lot of thought into everything; it's all very refined. The afternoon tea was lovely, and both the dried apricots and mandarins were delicious. For breakfast, you can choose between lamb offal soup with rice noodles or刀削面 (daoxiao mian - knife-cut noodles). The facilities are quite comprehensive, with a coffee machine and a disposable bathtub liner. However, there's still room for improvement. The air conditioning in the room works, but it can make the air quite dry. The water heater is electric, and it's a bit tricky to get the hot and cold water balance just right. If two people shower consecutively, the next person has to wait quite a while. Overall, it's still a good place to stay. It's very convenient for exploring the ancient city, and it's not far to take a taxi to the grottoes.

The room was spacious, clean, and tidy. Its location inside Datong Ancient City made exploring incredibly convenient. The facilities were complete and cozy, exactly as pictured. The host was warm and attentive, always ready to help, and even gave us small fireworks, which the kids loved playing with in the courtyard – it felt just like home! Plus, there were fruits, drinks, and snacks available to enjoy freely. I'll definitely choose this place again next time I visit Datong. Highly recommended!

Datong Ancient City is home to this charming, traditionally-styled B&B. The decor is thoughtfully done, and the heating is incredibly good – I even slept with the window open on the second night! The breakfast, while small, is perfectly balanced with both meat and vegetables, and the pickled cucumbers are absolutely delicious and go great with rice.

Booked this for a friend, and she insisted I leave a great review! The owner was incredibly attentive to her needs. My friend wasn't feeling well, and the owner went out of their way to buy her necessities and even cooked her three meals a day. She really felt at home. So grateful!
