I made a last-minute decision to travel alone to Mingyong Glacier, and I was surprised to find such a wonderful guesthouse at the foot of the mountain. I spent three wonderful days there.
Location: You can see Kawagebo from your room, witnessing the golden sunrise and silver sunset over the mountains. It's a 5-minute walk from the Mingyong Glacier scenic area and very close to the starting point of the Kawagebo Heart trek. Many experienced backpackers work there.
Environment: Air conditioning, electric blankets, plush blankets, and hot water were all provided. For this price, location, and conditions, it was truly impressive. Coming down from the mountain, I found such excellent accommodation and dining, especially since prices didn't increase much during New Year's Day. Brother Nongbu's living room and courtyard were clearly well-decorated and maintained.
Service: As a former tourism professional, I always have a discerning eye and strive to learn. Brother Nongbu truly treated his guests like family, a rugged yet meticulous Khampa man. And the staff at the guesthouse, Brother Baima and Sister A, were also wonderful.
Atmosphere: The guesthouse was full of experienced hikers. In the evenings, everyone gathered around the fireplace to enjoy wine, chat, sing, and eat fruit. It was a great start to the new year with a wonderful talk session – choosing a place frequented by hikers was definitely the right decision! And I'll be thinking about the wine made by Brother Nongbu for a long time.
This solo trip during the New Year has been incredibly memorable. I've become a big fan of Shanyin (Mountain Retreat). See you next time!
