The Highfield House ★★★★

"The hotel is located on the outskirts of the small town of Driffield in East Ridings of Yorkshire. It is surrounded by a stone wall so rather easy to spot. Parking is on the right from the hotel. The Victorian property, with its striking black and white façade, was built in 1864 as a house for the local merchant. It has been beautifully restored by its current owners with a lot of thought, love and attention put into the development. Sadly, it is being put on sale so its future is rather uncertain. The reception is located right in front of the main entrance and staff there were cheerful and very helpful. We felt that personal touch throughout our two-night stay at the hotel. Our corner Gramercy Room was huge and very tastefully decorated, with views over the well-kept garden. There was a large, comfortable bed and plenty of seating. The big free-standing bath-tub was located by the window. Wardrobe in the corner helped to keep the room tidy. There were tea and coffee-making facilities. There was no fridge but the pantry outside our room, in the little private area, had fresh milk, water, variety of teas and drinking chocolates as well as jars of sweets and biscuits. Wifi signal was good. Bathrobes were provided. Bathroom was located behind the bed, separated by a heavy curtain. It had a walk-in shower and toilet in separate closed cubicle. We dined at the Mill and Vine restaurant, that is managed separately from the hotel. The menu was limited, food rather average but service was exceptional. Breakfast was quite standard. We really enjoyed our stay at The Highfield and would be very sorry if the high quality stay we experienced was sacrificed for profit, as often happens with new owners."

"Stayed on our way to Beverley races. High end guest house and the owner couldn’t have been any more helpful. We stayed in room 7, big and spotless throughout. Much better than a chain hotel etc. Ate at a local Pizzeria, which was excellent on the waterside and a five minute walk. Swimming pool/ steam room was absolutely fantastic, will make sure and visit again."
