Badlands Motel ★★

Heartwood Inn ★★★

"Staying here was such a relief after finding only rather grim chain motels for most of my trip. Heartwood is a funky old house with nooks and crannies, random furniture and generally a high standard of comfort. My room had a big jacuzzi style bath – though I didn’t dare try the bubbles. I had a lockable door to the outside, leading into the front garden adorned with – what else – large model dinosaurs. The only minor defects were that the night-light in the toilet seemed to be non-functional (maybe I just never found the right button?), and breakfast was extra, which seems a bit odd for a B&B. Though I decided to skip breakfast anyway, since the only menu item was sweet and carb-rich which didn’t suit; instead I went down the street for breakfast to Vintage, open from 0730. Overall, high marks for a delightful stay."
