I’ll be absolutely honest , couldn’t fault the staff , the chef doing breakfast was a lovely lady and it’s a good full English breakfast, now is the single room I stayed in for one night worth the cost , I don’t think so TBH , there’s no window it smells of damp , so couldn’t recommend it , it’s for contractors to be honest

I chose the Pheasant as I was working away for 3 days and it seemed the most central for my days. At first I was a little disappointed, especially as I was informed they no longer serve food, other than breakfast. However, I decided to continue, as I'd driven and there's a brewers fayre only 2 miles away. Yes the room was basic, but all I needed was: Parking Internet Bathroom Tv Bed Breakfast, But above all, I needed to feel safe, as a female travelling alone. The room was single with a private bathroom (not shared), the TV was fine, Internet worked, tea/coffee facilities, shampoo, shower gel, bottled water, it was clean, and I felt safe. I spoke with 2 members of staff who were both friendly, and the breakfast was great!! Set me up for the day. And I felt very safe. If I'm working in the area again, I'd happily stay again.

In fairness the pub and the staff saved me from giving this a 1star rating. The room was not as described in the marketing material, as it had no external window or vents so was smelly due to a lack of fresh air in it. If the marketing information had said that, I wouldn’t have booked it. Staff were friendly and nice, pub was a bustling friendly place.

It really is NOT the sort of place one would choose to stay in at all. It is what I would call a working man's pub & not the choice one would stay unless an emergency. Room 11 at the top of a very steep flight of 10 stairs was en-suite. Clean but very basic. No hooks of any kind in bathroom. Clean but half a toilet roll, no hand towel just a bath towel placed in a plastic bucket by your door. My sister-in-law & husband had an empry soap dispenser. Less than half a toilet roll. We didn't know the area & the peron who booked us in went by reviews on ***********. I would say perhaps the landlord writes the reviews. We asked for walk in showers as both my sister-in-law have fairly severe mobility problems. Yet the number of stairs to climb to get to our rooms were crucifying. Fortunately when I arrived I had taken my small hand case out of my car but couldn't get to concrete path properly as a car was parked there. The owner of the car came out of the pub, saw my difficulty and offered to take my small case up to my allotted room. He was horrified when he saw the stairs & my walking problem. Also I found it very frightening when struggling up and down stairs as the handrail immediately outside my bedroom was beginning to detach itself from the wall. We decided to have a drink whilst contemplating our situation, my sister-in-law went & asked for the menu for the evening meal. Imagine our shock when told we don't do meals!! Looking at our confirmation form is says "our food offering is currently only available Monday to Thursday night 5.30 to 8.30pm." But what it doesn't say you HAVE to book online & food is brought in!! Reeling from shock I wanted to book out straightaway & go elsewhere only to be told our money had been taken from our account 2 days prior to our booking. I was so angry. We really had been taken for a ride. The breakfast times turned out to be 06.30- 08.00. W/ends 08.30- 09.30. At least the family who worked there were a lot more helpful. Breakfast was good. But th work entailed in keeping that place up to scratch certainly needs a complement of at least 8 staff whereas there were only 5 and they worked very hard indeed. The picture that appears on the website must have been taken 20/30yrs ago. My satnav told me I had arrived at my destination but it was virtually unrecognisable. I went past it twice because it is so unkempt, delapidated and dirty looking. The pub sign is totally unreadable. The whole place is is desperate need of a good repaint. I'm afraid we renamed the place The Peasant Inn!! Never again will I trust a website.

We chose the Pheasant as it was located just right for an event we attended - and when you consider more expensive options nearby, we reckon we saved £120 after room rate, taxis and breakfast if we’d stayed elsewhere. It’s not glamorous, just simple and did the job just right. The staff were friendly, it was clean, breakfast was great and it was tremendous value. If the thought of a shared bathroom concerns you, go and stay somewhere else and pay £85. But in reality the bathroom was 3 steps out of our door and was never busy when we went to use it.
