The View Boutique Hotel & Spa

Amanzimtoti|2.49km from city centre
A good place to be with a beautiful view.... ”The View” as its name . Closer to a shopping complex , gas station, 5min drive to the beach, closer to the beach there also restaurantswhere you can dine whole having the beach view, Toti Beach. its also closer to galleria Mall. The place is too steep so be ready for that... Their food is delicious, we had dinner there at their restaurant called Giorgios but its expensive I must say. Not sure about their breakfast and lunch though. Staff and reception is just ok. I had requested them to add a crib bed for a child and upon arrival they told us that the storeroom is closed because we arrived at 6pm so it's too late. We then asked them to give us atleast a bedsheets or any linen so we can make a plan for our son, they said ok but never pitched , nothin, not even getting back to us to say what could be the matter. We asked again the following day, they took four hours to bring a bedsheets. Bottom line is if you have a child do not, I repeat DO NOT book that place because they will lie straight to your face saying they could not reach you since you booked via an APP. I'm not sure whetherI want to talk about their kitchen in the rooms. You will have to call them now and again to bring things and they take 3 to 4hours just for a simple thing like a spoon. One thing I can say is they don't listen and listening means you respect your business and your clients I flew from overseas to rest and have a good time and have treat ourselves since they have a spar but I ended up canceling my plans for a spa because I didn't want additional dissapointments. The rest I don't even want to mention...and that is my experience after paying so much Money and looking forward to a good vacation 😌 BUT...

Breakfast

Parade Hotel

Parade Hotel

Durban|1.16km from city centre
At check-in we were welcomed warmly by Mr. Mhize :) Our room was nicely done but deep cleaning is highly needed I mean even bathroom walls have stains which goes to show that training at housekeeping is highly needed. It was not my first time staying at the hotel. Previously we enjoyed breakfast especially when there was an Indian girl working there. This time around their service was just so disgusting!!!! In the first morning I informed the chef in charge that I'm vegetarian and asked if she could prepare anything for me and rudely told me that ”I don't know of you except of one guest that I prepared for, reception didn't inform me about you! So I'll give you something little from what I prepared for the vegetarian guest that I know of.” And indeed she gave me unappetizing less than a fist of fried chips. So much talk for fried potatoes! I am a paying guest and you don't talk to guests like that. When I went to go get something else on the buffet another chef asked me ”where is the plate you were using before?” REALLY????? I'm so disgusted and disappointed by their service. The chef in charge also kept shouting at a newly employed lady ordering her around with no respect! If you have no respect for your staff do that back of house not in front of guests it's belittling us and lowering your standards. On the second day we hoped for better but it was worse! We dished up our first rounds and I was made mushrooms only, even after I informed them I'd be returning. I believe there's so much more that could've being prepared if the love and passion was there. I went to go dishup again for my fiance and the chef first served the guest behind me and ignored me as if I was not standing in front of her, I saw her leaving one egg and I asked for two and she said ”second rounds are not allowed for eggs, that is why I'm making you one.” In my whole history of working and staying in hotels never in my entire life have I ever heard of such!!! Breakfast was decreased by an hour. Is it so much work to give good service in ONE HOUR?!

Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani

Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani

Durban|1.44km from city centre
During my recent visit to Durban, I had the opportunity to explore the Elangeni and the Maharani hotels. While the memorable beauty of the marble stairs at the entrance of years gone by has been replaced, both establishments had their own unique charm that left a positive impression on me. Although I had initially booked a room at the Elangeni, I was pleasantly surprised to be given a room on the 21st floor of the Maharani instead. The view of the sea from this vantage point was truly breath taking, blurring the lines between the ocean and the sky. It was a sight to behold. The room itself was more than satisfactory, especially for someone like me who has extensively travelled across the Middle East and Africa for the past decade. While it may not have been the epitome of luxury, it surpassed the realm of mediocrity and provided a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. My stay was only for a single night, but I made sure to indulge in the buffet offered by the hotel. The variety of dishes was remarkable, ranging from delicious BBQ to delectable seafood and everything in between. The boerewors and lamb chops were particularly outstanding, and the array of seafood options kept me craving for more. I was reluctant to give the mouth-watering salads a miss, but they stood no chance against all the other tempting options. Sad to say, the irresistible spread of desserts presented a guilt-inducing temptation that I couldn't resist. Should have gone for the salads instead. Regrettably, the one major drawback of an otherwise excellent culinary experience was the sight of hotel guests coming down to dine wearing the hotel robes, which I found quite displeasing. It would be greatly appreciated if the hotel management could enforce a dress code in common areas, ensuring that all guests are appropriately attired during meal times. This would contribute to a more enjoyable dining experience for all paying guests. Despite this setback, I had an overall pleasant stay at the Maharani. The breath taking view, comfortable room, and diverse buffet made my brief visit a memorable one. I would certainly consider returning in the future, hoping that the hotel takes into account the concerns of their guests regarding the dress code issue

The Royal Hotel by Coastlands Hotels & Resorts

Durban City Center Durban|0.29km from Old Station Building
My wife and I stayed at the Royal Hotel overnight, during March, 2022. We used an elevator to get to our room, and noticed a large dead cockroach lying at the entrance to one of the three elevators. The entrance carpet of our room was damp, and the other carpets and easy chairs were shabby. The curtains were not ironed, and the windows were smudgy. The bathroom basin had a good share of mould around the top of the basin. The room fridge was totally empty, and after our trip to get to the hotel, we were thirsty, but there was no water bottles in the fridge. We complained at the front desk, and afterwards one of the staff brought us two small bottles of water and charged us Twenty-Five Rand per small bottle. There was a kettle in the room, with tea/coffee making facilities. The bedside lamps were strange, and were not matching at all. The shower and toilet were in good working condition. We took the elevator at about 09h30 the next morning to check out, and the cockroach of the night before, was still in front of one of the elevators. We decided to order coffee and scones at the coffee shop. The picture on their website displays a cake stand, filled with a variety of delicious cakes. The cake stand was empty. It seems that the regular business lounges were closed. The tragedy of this experience is that The Durban Royal Hotel has always been, over many years, one of the most famous and popular hotels in Durban, that was regularly used by businessmen and international travellers to Durban. It appears that there was a great lack of care or concern for guests at this hotel during our stay. This hotel is located in the central gardens square of Durban, and could be unsafe to walk around outside the hotel? Numerous tramps and beggars hang around. Sadly, we will not be staying there again.

Riviera Hotel Durban

Durban City Center Durban|0.58km from Old Station Building
Dear Sir/ Madam My family recently stayed at your ”hotel” Riviera Hotel 127 Victoria Embankment, Esplanade, Durban, 4001, on the weekend of Easter. I was horrified at the service we received. The General Manager/ or Front Office Manager, Hussain, refused to state his designation to us and lacks the number one skill needed by management, LISTEN. The service from the receptionist, lacked enthusiasm and courtesy. We were allocated a room that would be perfect for a horror movie. 1.The carpet in the room was laced with black dust, as though it hadn't been cleaned in weeks, to which Hussain's response was, ”we are situated on the coast, and dust comes in from a recent storm”. 2.The towels in the bathroom, which were once white, looked ready to be disposed off. We used our own face clothes and bought our own towels. 3.Nobody helped us to our room 105, we explored almost all the floors of the hotel, with our daughter who is mobility-impaired (disability walking). 4.We didn't get to watch the TV, as the signal was not strong enough, and hardly visible. 5.The rooms are extremely noisy, at all hours of the night. 6.There was no cutlery, microwave, fridge in the room, and only two glasses to service a family of 5. Needless to say I have advised my family and friends, never to stay at this hotel, it's a headache, zero hospitality experience, it will ruin their vacation. Dissatisfied Customer

Chartwell Guest House

The staff was very friendly, the location beautiful, but could not understand, they can make for breakfast scrumbled eggs, but no omlette? The container for soap in the shower was not fixed only hang up on the water tap so when you open the water the shampoo falls down. But these are small things, the view on the ocean and the room makes it worth to stay there . it was wonderful. Thanks a lot
Roseland House
4.1/526 Reviews
Close to the medical centre of Durban, I chose this Guest House for its location only, and I certainly wasn't expecting more then an adequate spot to make my base for the weekend. I got so much more, it is a really lovely place and the rooms are immaculate. The area was reasonably quiet. the staff were stunning. No problem giving them a full recommendation
Garden Court Umhlanga
4.5/550 Reviews
The hotel is a very nice hotel with modern rooms and two large beds. The rooms are quite small but functional. Great internal parking since there is no parking nearby. We had a number of problems with the reception, and we had to explain our problems to each staff shift: we had asked for the wake at 4:00 a.m., the breakfast to be taken away and the ship at 4:45 a.m. No one of the three requests has been met with the risk of losing the plane.
Premier Hotel Umhlanga

This is the friendliest hotel in Umhlanga with the best views at the restaurant and the bar. Best breakfast and dinner menus. Hygiene is at the tee, the staff is friendly and helpful.
Anchor's Rest Guesthouse and Self Catering

Anchor’ s Rest is perfectly located, walking distance to the beach promenade with the lighthouse on one side and the little Forest Cafe in the other, cozy, friendly decorated and a little bit of Italian style, felt very welcome and enjoyed the pool and the honesty bar, it was really hot, Peter took care that we have everything we need to feel comfortable, very nice to stay in walking distance to Main Street with all the restaurants, enjoyed the stay so much, thanks for recommending Alwi’ s Drift Sauvignon Blanc, was my favorite on the whole trip, thanks again for the warm welcome and all the comfort in your house, highly recommended, Thomas & Birgit
The Capital Pearls Hotel

well! The best hotel in the class, the neighborhood is very safe, fast food, Chinese and Western food are available, the beach is very beautiful, but a bit expensive, but it is worth it, five-star worth experiencing
