Honest review: Bad points: My 11 month old was anxious to crawl after riding in the car, and the carpet looked clean enough. After 20 minutes of crawling, her legs, hands, etc were covered in dirt from the carpet (even though it was visibly vacuumed.) She had to stay in our arms or her pack-in-play for the rest of our stay. Also, the sink handles turned 45 degrees each time we used them, exposing the soap-scum beneath (just needed to be screwed down), thin walls allowing us to hear the couple in the next room and their guest discussing which sports channel to watch, a hole in the drapes, and scuffed furniture and picture frames. Good points: Absolutely beautiful lake and pool area! Delicious DoubleTree cookies, and very friendly staff. After staying at other DoubleTree hotels, I was surprised that the Doubletree group would allow this hotel to use the name in its current state of maintenance. Suggestion: Deep-clean the carpets and at least use a furniture marker to quickly hide a lot of the dinged places on the furniture and picture frames if new furniture is not in the near future.

Great place, sure its a little dated but the staff were all great and very helpful. Its tucked away a bit and is very quiet. It is a large space with a lot of green areas and places to relax on the grounds. The front desk were always smiling and outgoing, breakfast was great and priced very reasonable. I recommend the hotel

Stayed two nights Sept 29, Sept 30 of 2022. The hotel itself is okay lots of parking and had an overall welcoming appearance upon check in. Our room was decent, beds were comfortable and the shower was an absolute dream, great pressure and heat. The constant smell of cigarette smoke was something anyone could smell walking through the hallway and should have been promptly addressed by hotel staff. The crying baby in the room next to us was just unfortunate and no fault of the hotels but that's where the smoke was originating from. Our room had some pasta and a bottle cap on the floor when we entered, not the end of the world but leaves a icky feeling. The hotel itself had NOTHING open. No bar, no restaurant and the pool was closed for maintenance. This should be something they communicate to guests prior to arrival. The power went out at the hotel on Friday night around 8pm and was still out when we checked out the following morning around 11:30am. Not the fault of the hotel however the place was completely dark, no emergency lighting what so ever. There was no hot water either. A hotel this large should have an emergency back up generator to handle a few small loads that would make the world of difference to their guests and be a relatively small investment.

The conditions are very good. The room is large, the decoration is very good, there is a car to Duke University, it is still good. Walk to some restaurants, walk to Duke University for at least 30 minutes, the road is more desolate, it is recommended to use Uber.

I have stayed at this hotel many times while visiting relatives. It is clean and comfortable. The staff is extremely kind, friendly, and helpful!!!! It has a remarkably good kitchen and I have eaten dinner there a couple of times as well as many breakfasts. Breakfast is varied and well prepared. The shrimp tacos and flatbreads are top-notch. I especially want to praise the front desk staff, the restaurant staff, and the maintenance people who I have had need of once. The workout room is also a good size, airy, and well equipped. I enjoyed the Peloton bike.I have TWO COMPLAINTS: 1. The pool has been unavailable for many months. It was closed during my visit in January and May. I like to relax in a swimming pool especially when the weather is hot. 2. The heavy sliding doors to the bathrooms in the rooms are difficult to close and open. They offer very little visual privacy and no sound privacy. I guess someone thought they were attractive or trendy. I don't find them attractive but in any case function is much more important on a bathroom door than style.
