Les Deux Marguerite

What a lovely place to stay this is! A good, central location in Alençon, close to bars and restaurants, with private parking and a beautiful garden. Stéphane, our host, was great - welcoming, helpful and happy and keen to do everything to make our stay go well, starting with evening drinks on our arrival and finishing with a lovely breakfast the next morning. The décor is amazing, and the rooms very well designed. Very comfortable bed, and great bed linen too. We were just travelling through Alençon on our way back to Calais, but it would have been great to be able to stay for longer. Definitely recommend.

An unreserved recommendation - one of those places that feels like a hidden secret that you'd like to keep to yourself, but the owner, Stéphane Guy, deserves every success and so we want to share this wonderful place. A cancelled ferry from Dieppe meant an unexpected stop in France, and we found ourselves in Alencon where it was a choice between a typical anonymous chain hotel or, for a few euros more, this guest house in a charming 19th century maison de maitre. Stéphane has done a fantastic job refurbishing and decorating it, including a wonderful collection of paintings by artists with a local collection in the common areas. The rooms are impeccable, and Stéphane, apart from being a warm and gracious host who prepares a great breakfast and a really nice person to talk to, is a mine of information on the town itself, with some great recommendations for restaurants. Alençon is an elegant town with much to recommend it - we'll definitely be back and will be sure to stay at Les Deux Marguérite when we do.

A magnificent property with fantastic hosts ! We stayed for 2 nights and from the outset we were greeted and looked after just as if we were their friends.  This is a beautifully refurbished property, which has been tastefully updated, whilst still retaining the full character of a very old building. Our bedroom and bathroom fittings were of a very high standard, the bed was large and comfortable, and the room had lovely views towards the picturesque town. The owners also showed us around the other rooms, which were equally well refurbished to the same very high standard, and they also had great views of the old walled town. Breakfast was also very good  with attentive friendly service, and a choice of fresh fruit, breads, croissant, and selection of  cheese, plus eggs cooked to order.  The location is very quiet,  and yet just a 5 minute walk to a wide variety of shops and a great selection of restaurants as well as a great opportunity to explore the historic town and buildings of Alencon . We loved our stay !

Beautiful hotel. We stayed in the family room and it was amazing- 2 bedrooms, very good quality furnishings, huge shower room, lots of little snugs to read/ look out over town. Also a beautiful sitting room guests can use. Grounds beautiful also. Free parking onsite. Basically in town so easy to walk to town. Jean-Michel was very helpful with suggestions for dinner. Couldn’t fault it. Only sorry I had only booked one night. Easily the best place we stayed on holiday

We entered via an archway up the drive to a lovely garden and an amazing house. We parked in the grounds and were early so explored the pretty town and text our host Stephan. He replied instantly and met us when we returned. Our room, up 2 flights of stairs was perfect for 1 night. Separate toilet and shower room, large bed and TV. Coffee making facilities in the room, although the breakfast room had a coffee maker and i am sure if we had asked he would have made one for us as he offered us drinks on arrival. The room overlooked the chateau , very pretty. The town less than 5 minutes walk with a variety of cafes and restaurants to choose from. A good range of shops as well, unexpected for us as we used this as a stopover on our way back to Calais. the breakfast choice was cereals, bread, fresh croissants and eggs were offered. fresh juice and coffee/tea. The hosts couldn’t do enough for us, even carrying our bag to our room. If we ever pass this way again this stop would be a must for us.
