Mantra Esplanade

The Mantra Hotel has outstanding location. It is directly in front of the Woolworths supermarket - the best option in central Cairns. It's also virtually opposite (the esplanade side)the lagoon public beachfront swimming pool. Finally it's just a 5 minute walk from Cairns Cruise Terminal, with outstanding day trips to Green Island, Fitzroy Island and the Reef. I booked a sea view room. When you enter the room, you don't see the ocean, but a building across the road. However, the view from the balcony was amazing. The balcony overlooks the main features of lagoon on the sea front. During the day it is great view - the lagoon pools and sea in the background. At night you cannot see the sea (as to be expected) but you have the amazing lagoon lights, which makes it very desirable and even romantic. Our room was at the end of block, which overlooks a shopping mall (no car noise) - looking right from the balcony is the lagoon view and looking left is a mountain view. However, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm the sun comes directly into the balcony area, which means it unusable until sun sets. Of course if you don't mind baking in the sun on the balcony, this is not really a concern. The room itself is pretty basic. The mini fridge of OK and TV has domestic channels only - no cable TV for BBC/CNN. The bathroom is of a good size. There is combined shower & bath. However, when using the shower, it can slightly flood this bathroom. A shower curtain may be desirable because the glass panel is not sufficient enough. At $225 per night this hotel was not cheap and you can better deals by coming in the off-season OR going bit further down the esplanade, and choosing another hotel. The Mantra does have its own pool and it is wonderfully heated, with normal deck chairs you would expect at 4 star hotel. However, the pool gets very little natural sunlight, because it of its location between 2 buildings. Overall, the hotel has amazing location, and it is still recommended, despite the shortcomings mentioned. My final note: When we checked in, I was impressed with the level of service provided by the receptionist. She had a very welcome attitude and a wonderful personality.

The location is really convenient with lots of restaurants around. We like the Ben &Jerry round the corner of the hotel, we always visit there before returning to Hotel.

Perfectly located with friendly staff. Very quiet considering it is in the heart of the city. Only 5 minutes away from the airport and the harbour and esplanade is out the main entrance

We really enjoyed staying at Mantra Esplanade. The only thing I’d mention to sun lovers is that the hotel pool has no sun during the whole day (we were there in June 2021) so went for a swim to the lagoon across the road instead.

Our family were staying here for 3 nights during our vacation this year. We found this hotel and thought it looked very good and central. We booked a 3 bedroom appartment with sea view and were looking forward to that. When we arrived, we got a room with absolutely no sea view. We asked if there was anything wrong but the staff just said that this was our room and there is nothing they can do about it. We were disappointed but couldnt do anything about it. Then when we tried the beds, it was impossible to sleep in the bed sofa. It was the cheapest and most terrible bed sofa I have ever seen. We complained about this to the staff and they referred to the manager. after the whole day, we got in contact with the manager. We wanted to get an additional mattress for the bed sofa since the iron bar under the thin mattress were hurting your back when laying there. He was very rude and told us this is what you paid for and rejected all our suggestions about getting another mattress or pillows to make the situation better. Since he refused all our suggestions we requested one of us to get another room just for the night so we all could sleep in a proper bed. He said it was fully booked but at the same time we had to pay if we would want another room. That doesnt add up.... It all ended with us putting the mattress on the floor instead to be able to use the bed at all... So if you want to pay hundreds of dollars to sleep on the floor, this is your hotel.

It’s was un professional and what has been advertised on the internet prior to booking wasn’t met

We really loved the place. The apartment, the balcony, the location, the staff. There is however one thing that should be upgraded from the 1990’s - the internet. In Cairns on the street there is free internet, but at the hotel you need to pay, for limited number of appliances and for limited use. Frustrating! Another frustrating thing is the very limited amount of parking spaces for a large hotel. We went off-season and it was a nightmare, I can only imagine the summer…
