Hub by Premier Inn Edinburgh (Royal Mile)

This was the worst hotel we encountered in the UK. The room was old, the air conditioning was leaking, and the carpet had a musty smell. We wanted to switch to a room without AC, but the windows wouldn't open and there was no ventilation system. We contacted Trip.com, and their customer service was actually quite good. They followed up proactively and helped us switch rooms and resolved the issue the next day.

The high bed, tucked into three walls, was very inconvenient for getting to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The room was very small. The location, however, was excellent.

Quite new, not a huge space but well-utilized. The location is excellent, very close to the train station, just a few minutes' walk after getting off. Breakfast was standard, with English bread, cereal, and salad.

I chose this hotel because of its good location and the promise of air conditioning. The room was small, but the space was well-designed and functional. However, the 'air conditioning' was basically just a fan. The room had a window, but it couldn't be opened. There were buttons on the bedside panel to adjust the temperature, but even set to 18°C, it was incredibly stuffy. I contacted the front desk to switch rooms, but the new one was just as bad. I even ran into other guests in the elevator who all complained about their rooms being extremely hot. Mind you, the outdoor temperature was only 19°C. In the end, I had to ask the front desk for a portable fan just to get some sleep. My advice for Edinburgh is that summer temperatures rarely exceed 25°C, so don't bother paying extra for a hotel with 'air conditioning' only to be uncomfortable. Just opening a window for some ventilation is usually cool enough. Having supposed air conditioning but being unable to open a window actually turns the room into a sauna.

Everything else was excellent, but sometimes the customer service wait times were quite long.
