Britannia Edinburgh Hotel

Great little hotel further away from city centre. The room was well ventilated for a windowless room, but then it was extremely cold. The heater helped a little. Carpet would have needed more vacuuming.

Location is only plus point staying at this property. Otherwise, no point. Hygienic issue, mould, dirty windows and floors. Bad smell from room and toilet. Worst ever experience.

I did not expect glitz and glam by any means, but what I found at the Britannia Edinburgh was abysmal, especially for the price. The staff upon arriving was cold, and bordering on inattentive, but not quite rude. A positive was they do have a luggage room that you can store luggage if you arrive earlier than check in, so you can then walk around the city and see the sights. Location is good. Was a short and easy 15 minute walk into Old Town. My main issue, and why I cannot in good faith ever recommend this place, is that it was absolutely filthy. The reception was dingy, but the room we were assigned (511) was disgusting. It appeared that housekeeping came in and made the bed and that was it. I cannot even say if they put fresh sheets on. I went to the toilet, washed my hands, and grabbed a crumbled towel on the windowsill that I had assumed was just used by my girlfriend. What I found was a hard dirty towel, that had biological fluids and who knows what other bodily fluids dried and crusted over in it. Just left from the last tenants. I went down to the desk because there is no phone in the room and no one was answering from my cell, so I hiked down to the desk to bring this to the receptionists attention. In his defense, he was very apologetic and gave me a full set of fresh towels and assured me someone would come to retrieve the disgusting dirty towel. Bare minimum in my opinion for this kind of issue but at least it will be out of my sight. Return to the room, and begin to investigate around more thoroughly. Proceed to find cut toenails all over the carpet, a dirty mug under the bed, bits of cut underwear/panties in the corner of the bathroom. At this point I cannot trust that the bedding is in fact clean, so I return to reception to point this all out. We’re moved to room 515, room is dingy but looks at least cleaned beforehand. Reluctantly stay the night and promptly leave the next day with one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had and the knowledge that I paid £150 for this travesty of a business.

The service was great, the staff were really friendly, and the environment was nice and quiet. I had a very pleasant stay.
