Rosemead House

I was going to give this hotel 4 stars but it is beyond good - and is definitely trying to be excellent. I stayed five nights during or shortly after its "soft opening." I chose to stay here because of 50 years of experience with this location - it was the Olde England Inn for many years and a very special place to stay. I wanted to relive past history. The "olde" is gone but what the new owners have done preserves the original building to some extent and the new rooms are decorated with antique style furnishings that hint at their past. So what would I recommend? First, I'd recommend a heritage wall, or perhaps a binder in each room, documenting the incredible history of this place. Second, and I'm sure it will be fine tuned, communication with the staff. They truly bend over backwards to try to make sure you get a luxury experience. That being said, opting out of service doesn't seem to get noted well. I didn't need or want "turn-down" service in the evening and told the desk. I still received the knock on the door for the service. Third, I personally found some of the incredible "tech" amenities a bit irritating - notably the "smart" toilet and the motion sensitive night light in the bathroom. The toilet manages to lift the lid when you get anywhere near it but you have to use the remote with its many options to get it to lift the seat - I am a male and would like a setting option to leave the seat up not down. The auto night light needs to have an "off" option as the smart toilet has a bowl light that works in the dark and is less bright. Additionally, the light on the thermostat is very bright and doesn't seem to want to turn off or dim during sleeping hours. Finally, there is virtually no variety offered in the breakfast offering. I appreciate the fact that it is included as is free parking, so not really much of a complaint and the service was great. I am so glad that this place is once again open and I would not hesitate to stay again. Wonderful proximity to Saxe Point Park and away from the bustle of downtown Victoria. I truly enjoyed my stay and hope to again in the future.
