Matala Dimitris Resort ★★★
"Worst experience in a hotel: absolutely avoid. I wouldn't even call the Dimitris Villa a "hotel": it's a country house masquerading as a tourist facility. We had booked a double room, but without any prior notice, we were assigned a single with two tiny beds, barely suitable for children. The bedding was embarrassing: a simple sheet placed directly on the mattress, without a mattress protector—definitely unhygienic (I've attached a photo). The room was cramped, not soundproofed (we could hear every word from the neighbors), and the bathroom was unusable: the shower and sink were completely clogged. The check-in (after 3:30 PM) and check-out times are inconvenient, and there's no real reception. The breakfast is extremely basic and definitely not worth the extra cost. But the worst came on the second day: after returning from a day at the beach, we found the room exactly as we'd left it—no cleaning, no towel change. After reporting the problem to the agency, they lied, saying they'd contacted us to fix the room, which never happened. I just wanted to leave, even if it meant losing my money! Non-existent service, neglected property, don't be fooled by the photos: this place is anything but a hotel. A complete scam!"
Matala Bay Hotel & Apartments ★★★
"The appartments are way off from the hotel. Maybee 1-2 Miles.. why par for the Beach accessability when u need to drive there? The appartment has only one bathroom, not 2. No wahing mashine. No pool. No externa lights. No reading lamps in bedroom. The paint is peeling off, poor build quility and dangerous appliances."
Bella Vita Style Rooms & Apartments ★★★
Idi Hotel ★★
"The room was clean and a nice modern asthetic, the balcony was ok, the bathroom was spacious for the bigger body type it will be comfortable. The beds were joined together to make a bigger bed and we were 2 people and the air conditioning was nice, slick and cold. staff was very nice/helpfull Also the breakfast was nice with alot of choices Our door didn't close I needed to lock for it to close Totally will revisit when I get the chance "
Hariklia Rent Rooms ★★★
Fragiskos Hotel ★★★
"A very nice stay decided at the last moment and which brought us some nice surprises both in terms of the majestic setting and in terms of the welcome and the living environment of the hotel, a 3 star which surprised us very much. its buffet and exemplary cleanliness, we recommend this hotel."
Matala Hostel ★★
"I stayed at this hostel for one night during a music festival, and I had a really positive experience. The room was clean, the staff were very polite and helpful, and they even provided me with an extra blanket when I asked. The location is excellent—right next to the bus stop, just a 5–7 minute walk to the beach, and close to the city center. The room had a proper renovation, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and I slept comfortably. Overall, I enjoyed my stay"
Calypso Hotel ★★
"I think it's the worst hotel I've been in... The food, let's not talk about it, it's totally indecent (the lunch is nothing continental, low standard. The evening meal, 1 normal dish and 1 vegetarian dish. As starters, salad, tomatoes, onions, olives, ... dessert, 1 fruit...) And what's more, it's not even good, the leftovers reused as much as possible, boiled eggs that have been hard for several days... At least we discovered some great little restaurants in town! The wifi does not work in the rooms even though it says "Wifi in the rooms"! When we complain about it, they say it works on the terrace, which is not true, we have the signal but impossible to connect. And when by some miracle it connects, nothing happens! It seems that it's because of the mountains, that it's like that everywhere in Greece, I have to deal with it... while the wifi works very well in the restaurant and everywhere else in Matala in the restaurants! At the Calypso hotel, we even receive wifi from surrounding hotels, but unfortunately no password :( TV. We're not here for that but still, at the limit, I would prefer that it not There aren't any! 3 channels: 2 German and one French-speaking. All almost as scrambled as Canal + without a decoder. The French-speaking channel remained frozen 4 days a week and what's more, they chose LN24 but the African version! Nothing against it, but this information interests me less... I had asked for a room on the ground floor, we were put on the highest floor... A broken fridge remained at the bottom of the stairs during the entire stay... Icy reception, I was even yelled at because I wasn't parked in the right place. And at the reception, you have to manage: we go up there with our luggage, we are given a sheet with some practical instructions and then it's you manage. And no one to help with the luggage... they are there, sitting, but no one moves... nice The girls who take care of the cleaning and clearing the tables in the restaurant are nice, but we have to clear our table ourselves! Is this a hotel or are we at home? A word of advice, there are other hotels, avoid this one, even if it is not expensive! Written promises but nothing in practice. Positive: the swimming pool but we have the sea very close..."
Hotel Eva Marina ★★
"The 2* hotel is a few minutes from the beach and is perfect! I was there for 10 days at the end of May until 8th of June. My room was spotless, was cleaned every day by a very friendly young man and I got new sheets and towels every second day! The owners are so friendly and made me feel very welcome, their breakfast buffet and coffee was great. There were also some really tasty Greek delicacies in pastry and some Crêpes in Nutella! 😋 All in all I had a great stay and can highly recommend the Eva Marina!"

Valley Village
"NOT RECOMMENDED!! We are probably the first with a negative experience. (after reading the reviews above) For us, NEVER again Valley Village. We had to ask for clean towels ourselves for our entire stay. A major downside! Which made the owners find us annoying. This was abundantly clear during their non-verbal communication. When the accommodation is full, we cannot all eat within the 2 hours offered in the evening in bad weather (for dining). The dining area is large and spacious, especially outside. But too small for all guests, when an accommodation keeps expanding without adjusting the dining area accordingly. The rooms are very noisy; you cannot sleep without earplugs. The many cats roaming around take some getting used to, because there really are a lot of them. If you do not like cats, or are afraid of them, then this is definitely not the accommodation to stay at. Because there are +/- 15 cats. (Large and lots of small kittens) There is no evening entertainment; at this accommodation, you have to entertain yourself. There is an elevator, which is handy if you need to take your suitcase to the 1st or 2nd floor to get to your hotel room. ONLY THE ELEVATOR DOESN'T WORK! It is certainly a family hotel. Suitable for the elderly and for families to stay in Valley Village. It is not recommended for couples, young or old, who prefer to be on their own. The swimming pool is not inviting; there is a dirty yellow rim from grime in the larger pool. The pool is not large, rather too small for the accommodation. The breakfast is extensive and well-prepared, as is the dinner. The waitress Christina deserves a feather, a star; a big compliment for her cheerfulness and service to and for the guests at the accommodation during dinner. Unfortunately, there are more downsides than upsides. Once again, never again Valley Village for us; we find it old junk, not a pleasant stay. We will definitely go to Matala again, but never, really never again to Valley Village! Not recommended! The rooms are super basic, the price-quality ratio is not right. The cleaning is minimal. Besides the fact that there were no towels upon arrival, there was half a loaf of brown bread in the wardrobe 😳. Which made us wonder if the room had actually been cleaned. Additionally, the building is very noisy. The room above the dining/restaurant area is noisy and you cannot sleep without earplugs. Furthermore, the refrigerator makes a lot of noise as well. All in all, the rooms don't deserve any awards for cleanliness. The center of Matala is amazing; there is live music somewhere every evening. Great. 👍🏼 Safety at Valley Village is fine, except that the hotel rooms are vulnerable to break-ins, both at the door of the hotel room and in the balcony room. Matala itself left a positive impression; no police, no crime, relaxed environment, especially in the center of Matala, or rather on the square from Matala, it is very safe. From Valley Vil"
Marina Hotel
"Small hotel, very good but rudimentary room, no parents, nothing in SDB to suspend a dresser, clothes... Good litter. But access to this makes the reception impossible for people in disability, stairs is not a ramp, nor lift."
Holiday Luxury Villas
"Wonderful vacation at Holiday Luxury Villas, very clean, helpful and friendly hosts, Mrs Eleni tried her best to accommodate us with treats!! Highly recommended for relaxation and quiet holidays in an area that offers various options for food and drinks."
Villa Koutsakis
"I would like to say that this is the only negative experience in two weeks of holiday in Crete, with three huge oil ships to be trapped off the beach and one industrial establishment on the right. The beach is directly accessible from the hotel but it was under absolute degradation (waste around, broken shadows, artificial swamp pieces in the sand and large red-red nets on the edges of the beach). The rooms were completely scrapped and furnished with a garden table and some plastic chairs, so not suitable for dinner: two beds on three were rounded to not move at night. The "kitchen" consists of two malfunctioning electrical plates, one pad and a few stove, a mini refrigerator we had to turn off at night because it was lying every 10 minutes. Of course there is no trace of boiler, coffee machine, Plates ... all things we have always found in apartments that, among other things, cost much less. So in practice it is impossible to cook even a plate of pasta. In addition, the villa is located in a completely isolated area from everything: The first village with a mini market is about half an hour drive away, there is a decent single tavern in the surroundings, to reach the villa there is a fancy road and the last track is completely shredded in critical and very rigid conditions, I would like to add the only opinion that can be considered subjective about the owners' attitude that personally seemed unpleasant and cold. Not that they were hostile, because they answered my questions, but nothing to do with the sun and warm attitude that made us in love with Crete. In short, better avoid the villa Koutsakis, there are countless other better and even more cheap places where they spend the days."
