From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and kindness, and the friendly atmosphere made us feel completely at home. The hotel is set in a beautiful, peaceful location surrounded by nature and the stunning mountains of Zaros. The gardens are wonderfully maintained, the pool is perfect for relaxing, and the whole property has a calm, authentic Cretan charm. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and beautifully presented. Every detail contributed to a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The food was also excellent, with delicious local flavours and wonderful quality. What truly makes Idi Hotel special, however, is the hospitality. The owners and staff are incredibly welcoming, helpful, and attentive. Their kindness and genuine care made our experience unforgettable. Idi Hotel is much more than a place to stay—it is a peaceful oasis where you can experience the beauty of Crete and the warmth of true Cretan hospitality. "I stayed at this hostel for one night during a music festival, and I had a really positive experience. The room was clean, the staff were very polite and helpful, and they even provided me with an extra blanket when I asked. The location is excellent—right next to the bus stop, just a 5–7 minute walk to the beach, and close to the city center. The room had a proper renovation, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and I slept comfortably. Overall, I enjoyed my stay"

"The property was lovely; our room had A/C and a mini-fridge with a freezer, and the balcony had a drying rack with clothespins. The bathroom had a shower, toilet, sink, and hairdryer, too! Haroula is the best: friendly, always happy, extremely helpful, and knowledgeable. She's our new good friend, and so are the people in all the stores, bars, and restaurants. We will be staying with her again. Kalamaki is heaven on earth! It was the BEST vacation we've ever had; it was beautiful, charming, and fun. I highly, highly recommend Galaxias Studios and give it a 5-star rating! ***** !"

"ATTENTION, SCAM ! Don’t fall for the pictures and reviews as i did. If you‘re looking for a place with furniture of the 1960‘s and atmosphere of a bad horror movie of the 1980‘s, that‘s the place to be! The weird -and sometimes really scary- owner Olympios is ruling his place like a Maharadscha for now 33 years, selects who can stay at his hotel (his words), no internet in the rooms, no TV, the pool is closed before 8am and after 8pm (but is not inviting anyway, directly beside the street, no shade, basic sunbeds without pillows…). But the worst about this place is the lack of atmosphere and renovation. Gives you a permanent feeling of being closed in a place where you do not want to be, horrible. And it was almost empty when we were there which made it even more suspicious…I took some picture where you can see state of the bathrooms, the reception with a switchboard on the right that is so old that it is almost cool (but also a bit scary!)….my 2 teenage boys were so scared and disappointed when arriving at the place (as me) that we immediately looked for another one. We stayed one night instead of the 5 booked and Olympios refused to pay back the difference of the down payment referring to a special law in Greece. THINK 3 TIMES BEFORE YOU BOOK THIS PLACE AND VISIT IT BEFORE IF YOU CAN !"

"Great accomodation, modern rooms, great location close to Zaros (Votomos) lake. We were surprised how good the value for money is. The rooms are spacious with a great shower. The pool and the garden are phenomanal with beautiful mountain views and trees to offer shade. Also the restaurant is great, we ate here several times during our 3 night stay for lunch and diner. If you are into hiking it is along the road to a start point for several hikes. We used komoot for navigation but there are signs also. Would recommend for sure!"

"We stayed at this property in Matala from 2 to 10 September, in room 19 (2 adults and 1 child). The hotel is very simple, in an excellent position to go to both the beach and the centre of Matala, and there is a very pleasant swimming pool. Our room was spacious and nice with a basic and repetitive breakfast. We had an unpleasant experience, as we had deposited our documents and cash in the safety deposit box (lockable), from which unfortunately €600 was stolen, €350 from my wallet and €250 from my husband's. We have been going on holiday to Crete in this area for years, for the first time in this hotel that we did not know, but nothing like this had ever happened to us. We returned very disappointed and bitter, €600 is not a trifle...."

"This is our third visit to Elea Terra Hotel in Matala. As always we received a warm welcome from Maria and her staff. The hotel is small, within pretty gardens. It has a peaceful laid back atmosphere. The pool area is never crowded or too busy. Again the atmosphere is low key with pleasant music playing, you can get a variety of drinks and snacks. The whole hotel and garden area is extremely clean and tidy. Don't come to this hotel expecting entertainment, evening band playing or loud music, you can experience this in Matala centre which caters for everyone but maintaining its alternative hippie theme. Maria and her staff focus on their guests having a peaceful, enjoyable, chilled out type of holiday and this hotel certainly delivers. To the reviewer who states there was no information about car hire. If you actually ventured outside the hotel there is a car hire place directly next to the hotel main entrance. There is a further car hire company 5 mins down the road towards the town Nick Holiday rentals which we use. As for excursions, there's a full colour folder next to reception full of excursions information so again to the negative reviewer ....do a bit of research it helps. The hotel is NOT basic as the negative reviewer stated it goes above and beyond its star rating. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a laid back, chilled holiday, in a lovely location and in a lovely hote. Our thanks to the owner the wonderful Maria and her staff for everything at this little gem of a hotel"

"We recently stayed in a charming bungalow accommodation and found it to be quiet, pleasant and comfortable. The bungalows are clean and nicely maintained, each featuring a nice private terrace set in a peaceful garden. The space is modest but functional. The layout is flat and easy to navigate, making it very suitable for guests with disabilities or young children. Parking is limited. Staff is friendly and efficacious. Breakfast is simple but enjoyable, with tables outside in the garden area. We did not tested dinner; the buffet was small. Matala beach is close, well equipped, not too crowed at beginning of the season (end May). Water shoes needed. As already identified multiple time in previous evaluation, there are many stray cats in/ around the hotel, most clearly in need for food and care. The current situation of hungry, unsterilized cats leads to overpopulation and suffering. This is causing distress both to the animals and to guests. The hotel management should organise sterilization and sufficient feeding stations. They are quiet and nice cats; many are/could be domestic ones. It’s heartbreaking. Until hotel management act, if you’re still planning to stay here and if you care about these animals, help: feed them discretely/sign on-line survey to authorities/donate to Creta association/adopt and/or continue lobbying hotel management. Stray cats are everywhere in Creta; I did only see worst in Cyprus with mistreatment and dying cats. Greece is worse than Africa on this topic. Situation in/around Matala is extremely bad, up to cats poisoning by exasperated; I did not find any local stray cats feeding/sterilization charity !"
