I stayed at Alton Towers with my wife on Friday 11 April 2025. Check-in was smooth, and we were really impressed with the room — we stayed in the Arabian Nights suite, which was beautifully themed and visually stunning. That said, I do have two minor critiques. Firstly, there’s no air conditioning in the room — just fans. The room gets very hot, and having to rely on noisy fans while trying to watch TV at night wasn’t ideal. The staff throughout the hotel were generally friendly, and the bar area and entertainment were both great — no complaints there. However, the Secret Garden Restaurant was a real letdown and, frankly, not what you’d expect from a resort like this. The food options were minimal, which would be fine if the quality and service matched the price point — but they didn’t. Our waitress came over after about 30 minutes and sighed as if she didn’t want to be there. My starter — supposedly chicken wings — was essentially just bones. We never even received our drinks. The table next to us ended up getting up and collecting theirs from the side because the service was so slow. The restaurant staff seemed very young and clearly hadn’t been trained in basic customer service. I rarely complain, but when you’re paying premium prices, you expect at least decent food and service — this was borderline disgraceful. I would have rated this stay a 5 out of 5, but because the restaurant experience was so poor, I’ve had to give it a 3.
