If you love Fernie but really want a cheap place to stay, you will probably be happy with the Raging Elk. If you are looking for a nice hotel and are willing to pay for that, you probably won't be happy with Raging Elk. It has what you need, is near a lot of stuff, staff is friendly, and the price is right. But the rooms are small, run-down, the beds are only so-so, no AC, the only small window looks out on a walkway, etc. We have been staying in a different hotel every night and while this worked as a room to stay in, it was our least favorite so far. But to be fair - the others have been more expensive! I'd give it 3 stars for the experience, but I'll give it 4 because of the value.

1 * for NO A/C! Get back to room each nite and even though It’s been closed up, it’s 28’C/83’F. They do have a small fan in the room, but moving around hot air isn’t enjoyable. At about 10 pm, we did open the non screened window (thank goodness for NO mosquitoes) and hoped NO one wanted to either look in or climb thru the big window. During non summer travel, this place would be 4 or 5 *. Very quiet…never heard our neighbors or the Kodiak Lounge. The loudest sound was our TP roller, which sounded like someone throwing furniture against a wall. Front desk strictly enforces 4 pm check in time.

AMAZING PLACE!! SADIE was phenomenal ❤️ She made a place for us and our SON when everywhere was booked. Her lovely personality was just what we needed after being evacuated from Kelowna. The entire place is super clean. From the bathrooms to the kitchen. The games room and huge TV room were awesome. I will be recommending this place to everyone. I purchased a hat which has the raging elk on it and can't wait to tell people where I got it. If your staying in Fernie this where u want to be. It also has a bar for the adults to mingle w the locals and unwind. We will be back . Xoxo

If you are looking for a great place to stay (whether in a private or dorm room) this is the place to stay in Fernie!! The hostel has everything you need, whether it be the huge kitchen, games room, theatre room or a great evening at the Kodiak Bar (be sure not to miss open mike nights on Monday). It also should be said that Sadie and Joe are the best hosts one could ask for and if you ask nicely they might give you some of their secret powder spots!! So overall, great hosts, great location that won't break the bank and walking distance to everything.

This is the second time staying here. The first time was only one night last winter when we were there for some skiing but this time I chose to enjoy a short summer holiday there and I was not disappointed. My partner and I had a family room. Would have preferred a private room as those have fridges but there were all booked up. We stayed for four nights. The room was cozy, the beds were very comfortable. I enjoyed the cubbies and hooks to keep things organized. The staff were all friendly and so fun and helpful. Dylan who works in the Kodiak lounge in the lodge was exceptional! The food in the lounge was also really good! Try the fries! They're to die for! I can't wait to go back again!

If you want the local Fernie experience there is no better place to stay in Fernie. The best bar in town is right downstairs! The new pods are pretty sweet for the privacy they provide but the hostel experience of meeting other travelers is not sacrificed.
