Visited on 11th to 13th as we were in Montrose to view houses. Excellent receptionist, really friendly and helpful. Room- we had booked a superior king room and it was a good sized room. Bit dated and in need of some areas painted. Bed was reasonably comfortable. Bathroom was in need of updating unfortunately, some tiles cracked and broken, floor down side of bath was not very clean. We found that we had a jacuzzi bath so that was a great surprise until we added some water to make sure it actually worked. When we turned it on it worked but the smell was horrific. It was like rotten eggs. We filled and drained the bath a few times to try and get rid of the smell which worked, we also went and bought some bath salts to help also. Once we had done all these things the smell disappeared. Breakfast- buffet was plentiful and tasted great, just the haggis and black pudding were very dried out, we were one of the first there so it wasn’t like it had sat out for a while. The tomatoes were delicious. Dinner- we had dinner on the Saturday. There were 2 functions on so it was extra busy. Hubby ordered the mac n cheese from the specials board and I ordered the fish. Due to issues in the kitchen our food was delayed quite a bit but the staff were fantastic, they kept us updated and we got a free drink each plus 10% off our bill, which was greatly appreciated. The rooms were quite warm but there was a fan there for our use plus we were able to get an ice bucket full of ice to enable us to chill our drinking water. In summery we would definitely return and hopefully once we move to Montrose we will be in to have dinner and drinks at Parker’s.

I stayed here on a coach trip from 4th to 8th May. The staff were very polite and nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent and plentiful and everything was spotlessly clean. My room was very nice, no view as such but I had an incredibly comfortable superking size bed all to myself and a good TV that worked properly. I accidently left a pair of jeans behind and they very kindly mailed them to me, once I had given them my bank details. Everything was excellent apart from the last night when a loud function was held right next to my room (339). I think it was Scottish Country Dancing, by the Piano Accordion being played very loudly and all the people kept spilling out into the hallway and congregating near my door and talking loudly. My room was the only one next to the function room and, fortunately for them, nobody else had this awful problem. I couldn't even hear my television. I had wanted an early night for our 8.30 departure the next morning. I phoned reception to ask them to keep the doors closed, but she was quite curt and just keep saying there was nothing she could do and it would stop at 10.30. I could barely hear her so I just just hung up and sat it out. It went on until 10.50 and then everyone was shouting out goodnight to each other ! Obviously, after this it took me ages to get to sleep and it spoiled the journey home because I was so tired.

The room was average. And needs a refit. And inside the building as well. The food was cold when it came out of the kitchen. The porridge was hot and that was my highlight of staying in a run down hotel. The staff needs better training. Only some of them. Had the right attitude.

When working away from home I usually stay in a Premier Inn but there isn’t one in the area. The security of a Premier Inn is you know what to expect re cleanliness etc. but sometimes an independent hotel can surpass my expectations. Sadly not at the Park Hotel. I received a warm welcome at reception (although no offer of help upstairs with my luggage) but not on entering my room. The radiator had been turned off. Poor to arrive in a cold room in December on a wintry night. On first glance the decor looked ok but I soon noticed that the walls were scuffed, stained and even parcel tape stuck on the corner of a wall. The radiator in the bathroom didn’t heat up and the water in the shower didn’t get more than lukewarm the next morning. On the plus side, dinner and breakfast was good. But the overall experience isn’t one I’d want to repeat.
