We were unsure if we'd be able to take a ski/snowboard trip this season but eventually it became a reality! We couldn't travel as far as we have in the past so we looked at closer European faves such as Avoriaz and Ischghl however I had always wanted to try Laax so we began to search there. I had earmarked March for our trip and initially used *********** just to get a feel for the area and the main hotels. Both of us like to find high quality hotels at a decent price and after checking the many hotels the Schweizerhof Romantik Hotel clearly stood out! My partner then contacted the hotel directly via their website and it immediately became clear just how helpful and professional they are from the initial reply. We booked our trip and then before we knew it the time came around for our adventure! Once we arrived at the hotel, late (9pm) on a Friday and after dinner, the staff arranged for our dinner (we had opted for half-board) to be brought to the lovely bar area for after we'd taken our bags to the room (helped immediately by friendly staff!). The exterior reminds me of the hotel in the movie 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' as it is a striking pink colour! :) At each turn, staff proved to be friendly, informative and falling over themselves to help us. A testament to the family vibe that runs through not just the core family owners (4th generation I think) but the staff is that many of them seem to have been working there for over 10 years and they also talk as if it is their hotel and do their best to maintain super high standards. The hotel lobby, and on each floor, contains lots of memorabilia and it feels as if you're on a movie set sometimes and all of the public rooms are well presented. The restaurant has lots of light allowing views of the surrounding mountains, and if you sit by the window you can also see the lovely shuttle bus drivers getting the small 8 seater shuttle bus ready and see how long you have whilst eating your breakfast! Breakfast comes in the form of a buffet with cereals, bircher muesli, fruits, scrambled eggs, meats, cheeses, timed hardboiled eggs (they even have two baskets for 5 or 8 min!), breads, teas and coffee and other items can be requested by the ever attentive staff. I mentioned the shuttle-bus and this is an 8 seater Mercedes van and the guys whizz you to the Flims base station in around 5 minutes! They're also on hand at the end of the day too and I think you can even call them if you end up down at Laax. There is also a free big bus, a typical resort style bus, that runs between Flims-Laax-Falera which is covered by the all area ski pass. People used to ski resorts will also find this straightforward and reliable too. The hotel has a blackboard in the reception area which highlights activities (yoga classes, gong ceremonies etc) and also offerings to the guests such as après night on the rooftop (more on that in a bit!) on Wednesday with raclette and gluhwein or juice, and tea and cake on a Sunday
