This place is virtually perfect in every way. Located just off the main high street it can’t be better placed. Each room has its own small plunge pool and there is a common pool too (although it’s small). The interior is steeped in style and history (it’s a former school building) with loads of original features particularly in the main building. The fixtures etc were tasteful throughout. Breakfast was included and it’s was buffet plus pick off a menu. Good quality. All in all it was a delight. Can’t recommend highly enough.

We stayed 2 nights here - our second stop on a South African tour. We will definitely return to this hotel, the location was perfect and stones throw from amazing restaurants and fabulous shopping. The staff were so super helpful and nothing ever too much trouble. All in all more than 5 and I recommend you add a stop here to your itinerary!

Having stayed at the sister hotel in Cape Town (see separate review on the Tree House), we had great expectations for Chapter House and it did not disappoint. Mrs Arch May disagree but this hotel surpassed the Tree House. Stepping into the hotel feels like stepping into an old colonial mansion. The reception area is stunning with high ceilings, chandeliers, whirling fans and all beautifully decorated with eclectic artwork and artefacts. Sitting here with a gin and tonic in the evenings felt like being in a different world. Our room was in the more modern “annexe” with wonderful views over the surrounding mountains. I cannot compare against the rooms in the main house but we would not have swapped. Peaceful and quiet and one street away from the main street in Franschhoek. As with the Tree House, the staff are super friendly and ready to accommodate any guest requirements. Mrs Arch recalls fondly the beaming smile of Alex at breakfast! We both hope he has a successful career in hospitality.

This was our last hotel on our South Africa trip .The grounds are beautiful, there’s a great pool but it’s let down by small things .We arrived earlier than expected we were warmly greeted with a drink and our bags were stored while our rooms was ready .It seemed like an afterthought to show us around. We had one of they Gins but was given two flat tonics (they were replaced )The other couple we travelled with had a power cut and had to move rooms ,the room was smaller and was provided with grubby towels .Theres no mirror other than the bathroom to get ready .We checked out early in the morning and was assured a packed breakfast would be ready it wasn’t when we left .Its a shame because it has all the trappings of being an excellent hotel

We are a couple in our 30s. We loved the hotel and the central location in Franschhoek. The hotel is a walkable distance from restaurants, shops and the wine tram. The pool area is lovely and is bigger than the photos show. Complementary tea and coffee and cake of the day was a nice touch. The staff were excellent, and very accommodating, even putting together a breakfast box for our early morning check out.

This was our second visit to this wonderful hotel. We were travelling with a friend who unfortunately was poorly when we arrived. The staff swooped in and took excellent care of her. Wesley and his team are really very special, with Jovita providing fabulous service. Nolo in the spa has healing hands! We can highly recommend this gem of a hotel and will be back next year.

The staff are really friendly and professional, particularly Wesley the manager. Classified 5 stars but we did not find it so. We booked there for 5 nights, to be in the town centre rather than on a wine farm, but it is definitely overpriced. There is plenty of parking and both main entrances are well secured with someone on duty 24/7. Our room was spacious with a patio and splash pool, bed comfortable, nice quality linen. But lacking in 'warmth' somehow, a bit too 'industrial' for us. Bathroom cleaning was irregular: The bucket to recycle waste water in the shower was an excellent first for us, but it disappeared after the 1st day. Then there were no face cloths ... Although there are small pleasant lounges, there is no bar as such. Breakfast was good. Beware of their cancellation policy! My partner was unwell the day we arrived and got an appointment for him to return to Cape Town to see the doctor. So the next morning we told the manager that we needed to cancel our last night and he informed central reservations, requesting a refund for us. We have now been informed that the last night was kept booked under our name and will not be refunded. Not what we had understood, but have to accept.

A really beautiful hotel - boutique in every sense of the word and brilliantly situated close to shops and restaurants in the beautiful town of Franschoek. To be honest the customer service could be sharpened up. Comms on arrival was a bit odd - lots of simple information was not shared. We had to find our way round the hotel - it wasn’t clear what drinks were to be paid for and what was complentary. Breakfast service was similar - only discovered the juice bar when we left breakfast on the second morning. It’s a fantastic place - you can sharpen up your act.
