Vila Gale Collection Ponte de Lima

One-night stay – enough for a little wet adventure We stayed one night at the Vila Galé in Ponte de Lima (July 5-6) and, despite the romantic name and bucolic scenery, the experience was both curious and wet. The hotel is located on a farm, which is great… as long as it doesn't rain. When it does rain, prepare for a kind of tropical rally between the buildings – umbrellas not included. Upon arrival (around 5 pm), the room wasn't ready yet. A classic. Luckily, they offered us a drink at the bar while we waited, which seemed nice and prevented a riot in the lobby. The hallways leading to the rooms are a veritable sauna tour. I imagine they're trying to save on electricity but compensate with human warmth… lots of it. A pity for the cleaning staff, who probably get cardio just pushing the cart in there. Positive points: dinner was good, the indoor pool was also pleasing. Now, the outdoor pool… well, prepare for a sort of “battle of sun loungers.” There are too few for the number of guests, and for those thinking of spreading a towel on the grass… surprise! There is no grass. Breakfast was a return to normalcy: good, varied, and without surprises, which is already half the battle won to start the day without irony. In short: it's not bad, but it's one of those experiences that depend (a lot) on the weather. With sun, maybe I'd go back. With rain? Only if they offer umbrellas and rubber boots at the entrance.

I absolutely do not recommend staying at this Vila Galé unit in Ponte de Lima. Paying R$ 188 for just one night and receiving this level of service is unacceptable. The hotel demonstrates a glaring lack of staff and organization for the volume of guests it receives. I had the distinct feeling that the team is mainly composed of interns or very young and inexperienced employees, left alone to perform without training or supervision. This is not about demanding luxury service, but for this price level, the problems I faced throughout my stay are simply unacceptable: Check-in: The poor service started right upon arrival. Professionalism failed at reception when they stopped assisting me mid-process to attend to another person. Outdoor pool area: On a day when the temperature was around 40 degrees Celsius, the pool area was chaotic. There were not enough chairs/sun loungers for the guests. In addition, there was only one person, on average, to serve at the bar. I saw many complaints due to waits of over 40 minutes for simple things like toasted sandwiches. To order anything, I had to go to the counter and wait in line for about 5 minutes. Parking: Completely insufficient for the hotel's capacity. There were no spaces, and my car had to be poorly parked for several hours before finding a vacant spot. Dinner (Pizzeria): The scenario of understaffing repeated itself. There was only one person serving everyone at the pizzeria. As is obvious, and as would be normal given the conditions they were given to work under, the service was very slow. Breakfast: At check-in, they made me choose a time for breakfast (supposedly to manage the flow of people). However, when I arrived at the agreed time, I went to the station where there was an employee making pancakes—something I wanted to try because I had seen them on the hotel's Instagram and they looked great—and the answer I received was that "they didn't have any more." It's frustrating to see advertising on social media that the hotel then fails to deliver. It's incomprehensible that a hotel would charge these prices and then try to cut costs by stifling service with a lack of experienced staff. It's not worth the price, and I don't intend to return.

I'm a Vila Galé hotel chain customer and whenever a new one opens, I like to experience it so I can give my opinion. The hotel has very good rooms, quality service, and excellent staff. I tried the "Massa Fina" restaurant and I recommend it. The dishes are made to order, beautifully presented, and very good indeed. For me, who loves spa hotels and with the size of the indoor pool, the lack of a jacuzzi, like the one in Elvas, would be fantastic! It would be top-notch, and this hotel would become one of my favorites, and I would visit Ponte de Lima more often, even though I live in Coimbra :)

Poor breakfast with slow replenishment, considering the overall level of the hotel. Basic bathroom - ordinary. Access to outdoor rooms is inadequate when it rains, especially for the elderly.

Excellent development, excellent location, and a very professional team. Congratulations to the Vila la Galé group for this excellent investment in Minho and northern Portugal.

A wonderful stay at a hotel with everything you need for relaxation. The staff were very attentive, dedicated to answering any questions, and friendly. The outdoor pool is beautiful with fantastic views; the children loved it. The hotel's landscaping is simply incredible, with attention to every detail. We had half-board and ate well every day.

Although the space was very pleasant and the room was good, there are things to review: the pool doesn't have enough sun loungers (I counted 32, which seems very few for 69 rooms), the staff are friendly but still unprepared, and the hotel has two restaurants, one for pasta and one for buffet. We opted for the latter, which doesn't have many main course options. The meat dish that day was picanha, which a staff member was preparing. When I went to get it, the staff member told me it was cold, and to my surprise, he put it in a frying pan and heated it up like that. We paid €91.50 for 2 adult buffets + 1 children's buffet (5 years old) + 1 bottle of wine (€14) + 1 iced tea + 1 coffee.
