"Lunch with friends, a few things took the shine off what could have been a very good lunch. Two of us selected fish and chips which was well received, the other two selected fish dishes, which though tasty were exceedingly meagre in portion size, not only the meat but vegetables were really a decoration than part of the meal, considering the price not good value. However the desert, a rice pudding with a fruit compote was generous in proportion size and very tasty. As an aside the occasion was spoilt by the loud behaviour of some young children, as there are two dining rooms consideration could be given to the smaller one being used for families and the main dining room for everyone else."

"We stayed at the Crown and Garter to kick off our Test Way expedition. It’s about as close as you can stay to the start (which is 2 miles away and steep climb!). Everything about our stay was exemplary. The staff were genuinely warm, highly personable and welcoming, going above and way beyond to help us - a perfect example of exceeding guest expectations. The room was very comfortable with modern decor and amenities as well as a plentiful supply of toiletries and teas/coffees. We ate both dinner and breakfast. These were reasonably priced, arrived promptly, good portion sizes and delicious. All in all we can thoroughly recommend everything about it. It is far and away the best accommodation of this type that I have stayed in. Thank you C&G, keep doing what you’re doing: it works!"

"V nice hotel with staff who work hard to make sure you are relaxed and enjoy your stay I had treatments at the spa, dined at the restaurant and mostly enjoyed my room with balcony view It was peaceful and relaxing The bed was so comfortable it was the first time I just lay on a hotel bed and didn’t have to think about what position to sleep in to avoid pain. So in terms of food the restaurant was fine, the offering could be better, the quality and value are fine but they could raise their game! Individual staff members, v pleasant and genuinely want you to be able to rest and relax It’s why I went to get away and have some quiet and this hotel is the perfect escape The rooms are dated but they are the cleanest and have all that you need"
