Hotel Monterey Fukuoka

Overall, I was satisfied with the location, facilities, size, security, and price. The hotel is conveniently located right in front of the Watanabedori subway station. This made it easy to get to from the airport, as I only had to transfer once at Hakata. There are also bus stops right outside, so I could comfortably travel to Tenjin Station without walking. The hotel lobby is on the 3rd floor. You take the elevator, which is visible as soon as you enter the building's ground floor, up to the 3rd floor. On the 3rd floor, there's a public bath, a vending machine for drinks, and coin-operated laundry machines. Each floor also has a separate smoking room, which was great because there was no lingering cigarette smell. The room size was quite spacious for a Japanese hotel; I had enough room to fully open my suitcase. The TV also supported YouTube and Netflix, which was a nice bonus for entertainment. My only minor complaint is the soundproofing. I could hear foreigners talking loudly at night, whether it was from another room or the hallway. While the cleanliness was generally good, there were some small dusty spots here and there. For those who are very sensitive to dust, it might be a bit bothersome (e.g., some dust remaining on furniture corners). When I first entered the room, it felt a little stuffy, but turning down the air conditioning quickly resolved that.

Hotel Monterey is incredibly convenient. Getting there from the airport was a breeze; I just hailed a taxi via a ride-sharing app, and the price was reasonable. The room itself was bright, clean, and quite spacious, perfect for two people. From the hotel, Canal City Hakata is just a 10-15 minute walk if you turn right, and Tenjin Underground Mall is super close, only a 5-6 minute walk. Hakata Station is also easily accessible, just two subway stops away if you turn left out of the hotel. This was my first time traveling independently, and I managed to visit Kokura and Mojiko in Kyushu, which was so easy! I'll definitely stay at Hotel Monterey again next time. 👍

The room was decent, and the hotel felt very new. There's a subway station right outside the hotel, Watanabedori Station, which is super convenient for getting to Hakata – I think it's only about 3 stops away. Highly recommend it; I'd definitely book this place again next time I'm in Fukuoka.

The location is great! It's close to department stores like Daimaru and Iwataya. From Fukuoka Airport, it's just one transfer on the subway and only 5 stops to the hotel, which is super convenient.

The triple room is great for families, and it's quite spacious – we had no problem fitting two suitcases. However, there were a couple of minor downsides: 1. Perhaps because the hotel has a public bathhouse, the bathroom in the room itself is tiny. There's hardly any counter space or shelves, making it difficult for women to remove makeup or wash their face. 2. The hotel has five coin-operated washing machines and dryers. Both washing and drying take 30 minutes. On our first day, we thought this was fantastic, especially since it was hot and we needed to wash clothes daily. Unfortunately, on the second day, three of the washing machines were out of order. One was just starting a cycle, and though the last one had finished, the guest hadn't retrieved their laundry. After waiting for half an hour, I reported it to the front desk, but they said they couldn't do anything about private belongings, which I understood, albeit reluctantly. We then waited another 30 minutes before a family of four finally came to collect their clothes, explaining they had put them in and then gone out to eat and shop, leaving the machine idle. Including myself, at least four guests waited for over an hour, and the other guest didn't seem to show any apology. I suggest the hotel implement some measures, such as: placing a notepad in the laundry room for guests using the machines to leave their room number so the front desk can contact them; or posting a warning that occupying a machine for more than a certain number of minutes will incur an additional fee. On a positive note, the public bathhouse downstairs was excellent and much more comfortable than showering in the tiny room bathroom. Plus, you can soak in the hot spring. Just try to avoid the peak hours between 8 PM and 11 PM. During other times, it feels like you have the place to yourself, and the staff clean diligently, so it's always very clean.

It seems to cost 1500 yen per day to park a self-driven car, but picking up the car was very convenient with staff assistance. During our stay, it was a child's birthday, and they thoughtfully made a towel cake and gave us some cookies. It was really considerate.

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights. It's about a 12-minute walk from Tenjin subway station. The hotel facilities aren't particularly new, and the hardware is a bit dated, but the room was clean and spacious. We had no problem opening both our 28-inch and 24-inch suitcases at the same time. There's a public bath on the 2nd floor, and on weekends, complimentary iced watermelon juice is available in the lobby.

It's one stop below Tenjin, so it's not too busy or too far, which is great. The bathhouse is clean, and the facilities in general are very clean.

I booked two rooms, and while their sizes varied, they were both larger than typical city hotel rooms. I requested a high floor, which wasn't granted, but that's okay. However, the rooms faced the messy buildings behind the hotel, which made for a poor view. There was a lot of dust on the bedside tables, which I hope can be improved. There's a large public bath on the third floor, but I didn't get to experience it because of the long lines to get in when it was busy.
