I would probably give this hotel 3.5 as it was a little hostelly but the quirkiness kind of made up for it. After reading previous reviews I was actually expecting the rooms to be smaller. They were small but perfectly adequate for single rooms. My son and I had a room each at ground level. If I went again I'd go for a higher floor as had to shut the curtains when people used the hot tub outside the window. Also we were woken by the laundry a few times in rooms 28 and 29. Although the rooms weren't cheap, they were very reasonable by Icelandic standards and I liked being out of town with the harbour, the elf park and the wonderful restaurant ”Krydd” nearby. It was easy to get into Reykjavik on the no 1 bus and some of the tours pick you up at the hotel. The tour desk were very good for organising our trips (link provided by the hotel) and Gatway to Iceland run a brilliant Golden Circle tour - reviewed separately. Also it was a great perk that the Flybus to and from the airport stops there. I enjoyed breakfast- a cold buffet with porridge and waffles. Many hotels in the capital don't offer breakfast at all or charge an awful lot for it so it was very welcome. The fish and chips, fish soup and burgers at the restaurant were very good and I liked the people there. It wasn't luxury but it made for a great Iceland experience.

The # of stars rating for this hotel is irrelevant. My wife and I have never experienced such kindness and curtesy well beyond and above the call of duty. Stranded in Iceland due to weather, not an uncommon winter event, and stranded by the poor response and complete lack of service from hotels.com, the front desk staff here jiggered the ir rooms, and found us one. All flights had been cancelled; we thought we had booked, thru htelos.com-they failed, Hotel Vellir came through with flying colors. while waiting in the lobby to see what they could do for us, we were served coffee! When has that niceness been shown to any of us weary travelers recently? The hotel is clean;+ comfortable, with a sports bar attached serving food on a Sunday eve-again no small feat. Breakfast too the next morning-and then kindly called us a taxi. Such hospitality in the hospitality industry- many could observe and learn from the staff here. The Hotel Vellir staff are ambassadors for Iceland- and deserve all the kudos one can muster. (Btw , you've never really lived until you've watch a football/i.e. soccer match called in Icelandic! So cool!) Thank you Hotel Vellir- you helped make what could have been a disaster into a warm and welcoming experience!

The apartment is right next to the University of Iceland and is the best international youth travel I have ever lived in. Convenient transportation. It is also convenient to go to the city center. The room is not WIFI. You can use WIFI for free at the reception desk in the lobby. There is a trash can in the room. The garbage is full and you have to ask the front desk to help. The service is very good. They are all young people and good communication. If you want to travel in Iceland for a week, it is recommended to book at one time, and it is more troublesome to change the hotel halfway. The room has a pole for drying clothes, which is convenient. After booking, pay attention to whether you have a private bathroom and toilet. Private toilet and bath are not a concept here. I was misled by the information when I booked. It is recommended to stay in a private bathroom.

This hostel has a practical and functional location only. The only reason to stay here is for it’s convenient pickup and drop off stop for tours and the airport. The room was a 4 bed dorm and was stark. Located opposite the kitchen and above the main entrance meant it was quite noisy too. The bunks are very, very basic. There aren’t charging points at each bed in this particular dorm (3) and the blanket provided is a decorative throw. The cleaning left a lot to be desired. Regularly had to ask reception for hand soap in the toilet, paper towels and toilet paper. The Wi-Fi is non-existent and the reception staff are totally ambivalent; they are pleasant but absolutely no desire to help. Plausible deniability comes to mind. You only stay here for the location that allows you access to all that Iceland has to offer.

Entrance to the guesthouse is via glassdoors; need to press the buzzer to be let in. Click on elevator button for 3rd Floor lobby.; Immediately right, the office is there man'd by owner (Migrated to iceland 20+ years) Showed around by the guesthouse manager + wifi connection PW pasted on the wall next to the manager room. Layout of area = typical of a shared bathroom/toilet guesthouse. Furniture: if you ever want to experience all things IKEA, this entire hostel Tables, Chairs, Cupboards, toiletries, bed frame, curtains, sink...etc etc are 99% Ikea , even the bed covers and mattress (spring coiled) are from Ikea. Single room size: Enough to park a large size sedan with enough room for your to cycle around on a unicycle, My room came with a sink/ mirror, cupboard (1.5metre wide), single bed with spring pocket, side table with lamps. Heated metal next to bed for cosy night. Toilet is clean and acceptable - no piss stains or poopy smells ( i suspect it is cleaned often). Shower area is lowly lit for some showers and some are larger with mirrors (brightly lit) - best to check which showers you want to use. Some shower room tiles seem to be covered with ”slime” but further check - seem to be covered with sulphur scales.. Water shower smells like rotten egg but its natural sulphur volcanic water occuring and gets some time to get used to it. (yicks) 101 Guesthouse is centrally located near 24/7 Grocers called 1011 which is similar to 7-Eleven (Food drinks, fresh fruits, bananas, bread, ham, cheese (enough stuff for family outing). Apart from grocers, it is next to bustop 10 which is listed in the tourist pickup point if you want to travel to see geysars or hiking tracks. there are about 9 Asian restaurants located within 10-150meters of the area; they are always fully packed - expect some noise from them during meal times . Asia restaurants = Vietnamese, Laos, Middle east, Burger joints, Pizza, italian, Japanese). Wifi connection in rooms are very weak - very strong in the pantry area. Fast for Zoom calls and games. Pantry: large Fridge, electric portable stove, many many plates, 2 pairs of fork / spoons, at least 20 teaspoons. Only 1 small bowl, electric kettle, TV. Clean tables and floor / chairs. Pantry need more bowls and spoons for cereal (owners do take note)

Outstanding budget option in a city that could use inexpensive lodging. The upside include: comfy bedding, warm environment, well maintained, solid breakfast with self choice, and great windows letting in light. Bath surrounding is clean and easy to manage. This is a hostel but our room was a one bedroom space with king size bedding. Best beef of our trip! The owners were great; super helpful. Questions: if you cannot get passed the hostel issue, then .... Maybe not the place. The guests were quiet, mindful, and considerate. Not a party hostel.

Hotel was clean, and overall nice. Free breakfast was very nice and had a wide range of food (bread, yogurt + toppings, make your own waffles, beans, eggs, coffee & tea); there is also a communal fridge on the 2nd floor. However, a few VERY IMPORTANT things to know regarding this hotel being self-service: 1. You are supposed to receive an entry code to get into the hotel 24-48 hours before arrival. We did not know this as we had booked through a credit card rewards program. We arrived to the hotel through the parking structure and were met with a key pad and a sign saying that all guests should have a code in their email. We called two numbers for the hotel and could not reach anyone - so we just called constantly and sat outside the building door for ~30-45 minutes. Finally some guests left and held the door open for us so we were able to be in the lobby. It was around 6pm which is when the bar opens up, so we were finally able to find a staff member who helped us. Our credit card company also finally got in touch with someone and we received our email with the code. So FYI - if you have not received a code within 24 hours, make sure you reach out so you have time to get into contact with the hotel as they do not appear to answer their phones all the time (email may be more effective). 2. The parking structure is difficult to park in - it is an underground structure, so just be prepared to park in a slightly tight space. However, the parking structure leads directly into the hotel which was very nice! 3. As it is a self-service hotel, we were having trouble opening and closing our door (we couldn't get it to lock). We were able to ask the man tending to the bar for help; but he was only able to do a temporary fix; I feel at a non-self service hotel we may have been able to get a different room with an appropriately functioning door. We just had to use lots of strength and make lots of noise to slam the door shut to lock it - not the biggest deal, but just a small note. 4. Just an FYI that this location is not in the city center of Reykjavik (you would have to drive or take the bus to get to the city center). This place is more residential, with grocery stores (which we went to) etc. We had stayed in a hotel in the city center earlier in the trip; and this was a very different spot of Reykjavik. Just FYI that Reykjavik is massive! Overall nice, clean hotel - but the self-service aspect does have its pros and cons (you just don't have the 24/7 support you might have at another hotel when little things go wrong etc.).

The hotel staffs were very welcoming and hospitality. We feel really good when we arrived at the hotel and even during departure. Breakfast spread was small but great. We had a warm and nice breakkie. The room is very cosy. The bed was very soft and springy! The blanket was just nice, very warm and comfortable. How we wish we could bring home. Haha. The guesthouse itself was nice enough. Note that if you stay in one of the economy rooms, you will only have access to one bathroom per 5 rooms (unless you are willing to walk back to the main house and use one of the bathrooms there). This was not an issue during my stay, but I woke up super early to avoid it becoming an issue. The real issue for me was the lack of communication. I ended up needing to spend an extra 50 dollars on long distance calls because this business failed to check their email or Facebook messages. On top of that, I had to call twice because I was given incorrect information the first time. Note that booking this property is a risk if you book through a third party (Expedia etc) because you may not receive the email with instructions on how to check in (this is why I had to call repeatedly after they failed to answer my emails).

My friends and I wholeheartedly recommend Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Natura for its excellent customer care from its hotel manager down to front desk personnel, including restaurant staff. We had a rocky start upon check-in but the manager on duty, Mr. Kjartan, resolved the situation to our delight. A very, very special thanks to Manager, Mr. Kjartan, who made our stay comfortable by responding to our particular room choices and necessities. He was most considerate. The three of us who booked two rooms can’t thank him enough for making our stay truly enjoyable and comfortable. Communication with the hotel directly via email and in person was efficient and most pleasant. All of the front desk and spa personnel were professional, welcoming, and helpful. To name a few, Saska, Michaela, Gene, Emma, and several others whose names escape us at the moment were very helpful. The longer we stayed, the friendlier and more approachable they became. Breakfast was ample. Pauline went out of her way to warm up some milk for my coffee each morning. True that an omelette was not available but the scrambled eggs compensated for it. Lots of different pastries and breads, fruits, bacon, vegetables, waffles, and so. many other delicious items for breakfast. Our rooms were cleaned well daily. Hot shower and/or soaking in a tub cured our tired feet and knees. Amenities at the hotel, especially the pool, sauna, steam room, gym, etc. were so well managed and they were attractive in appearance and clean as well. The lobby had original wooden sculptures designed and made in Iceland. It was a perfect place to stay for 8 days in Iceland. Walk towards the Bus Terminal to reach downtown by walking and you’ll get there in 15 -20 mins. passing by houses and apartments - a very pleasant walk. Or get the bus right outside the hotel for 490 kronin (ISK).
