This old castle was a perfect stop for us on our travels between Hallstatt and Budapest. I wished we'd stayed an extra day in this beautiful area. The view from our suite (the Poet's room) was breathtaking, especially at sunrise and sunset. The inn is a little rugged, as the house was built with rough wood floors. The rooms are well furnished with comforts of a modern home along with antique furnishings. Breakfast is amazing, with so many meats, cheeses, spreads, breads, and fresh fruits. Our dinner in the restaurant was also delicious, including the family's Winkler-Hermaden wines. There is not much English spoken here, but we managed fine. Don't miss the medieval armory in Graz nearby.

Die Familie Winkler-Hermaden bietet im Süden der Ost-Steiermark einen wunderbaren Betrieb von Schloss Kapfenstein (Hotel/Gastronomie), dem Weinbau, der Holzwirtschaft und der Jagd. In wunderschön renovierten Zimmern schläft man wie ein Graf (m/w/d). Die Weinverkostung erfolgt vom langjährig und äußerst erfahrenen Weinbauern selbst, der in seiner ruhigen aber sehr wissensreichen Arbeitsweise erzählt. Die Speisenzubereitung ist ebenfalls perfekt. Es lohnt sich jedenfalls, in diese "ruhige" Ecke der Steiermark zu fahren.

Das Schloss Kapfenstein eignet sich bestens für Anlässe aller Art. Wir haben für ein Advents-Mittagessen reserviert. Alles war perfekt vorbereitet, wunderschön dekoriert. Die Speisen waren einzigartig zubereitet. Super-freundlicher Service und tolle festliche Stimmung! Gerne wieder! Lisa Wirz
