Avoid The Lanes Riverhouse Inn – Terrible Experience I had a very disappointing stay at The Lanes Riverhouse Inn (Montague, PEI) with my 9-year-old son, and I would strongly advise others to avoid this place. We arrived to check in with the rates quoted at $133 per night, but upon arrival, we were informed that the rates had increased to $167 per night due to the new year. While I understand rate changes, it would have been nice to have been notified in advance. Our stay went downhill quickly. Within 20 minutes of arriving, my son went to his friend’s room down the hall. Suddenly, a staff member came pounding on my door, holding my child and his friend by the arms. She was yelling at me, demanding to know if the children belonged to me. Both kids were in tears, clearly terrified. Even if they hadn’t been my children, I would have immediately recognized that these kids were scared. The staff member continued to scream at me, accusing the children of disturbing other guests because they were running (at 1 p.m. in the afternoon). I thought this was completely overblown, but I apologized and quickly got the kids back in the room to calm them down. The woman continued to be rude and unprofessional, mentioning something about cancer patients staying at the hotel as if that justified her behavior. My child was so shaken by the experience that he never left my side for the rest of the stay. The whole situation left him terrified and ruined the rest of our trip. Also, once I got the kids calmed down in the room they said the lady was screaming at them saying that their was a cancer patient staying in a room. We later found out that the room was the breakfast room that the lady was pointing out to the children - clearly this was a scare tactic. The issues didn’t stop there. Upon entering our room, I found cereal (Fruit Loops) scattered under a chair, which I had to clean up. Later, when I went to sit in the chair to work on my laptop, I was disgusted to find that the leather was completely peeled off and filthy. Worse still, in the middle of the seat, there was a large smudge of gum mixed with dirt and hair stuck in it. It was absolutely revolting. While the staff did bring me a new chair, this level of neglect was inexcusable. The next morning, I found an old pair of women’s underwear under the coffee table. When I reported this to the front desk, the cleaner came up, vacuumed, and found even more dirt, including old candy and moldy cereal she even had to get on her hands and knees to try to scrape the dirt off the rug. It was so digusting. The TV didn’t work, and the fridge wasn’t cooling anything. When I asked to be moved to a different room, I was told they were fully booked. I requested a discount and was offered $45 off ONE night, which hardly seemed fair given the poor conditions. I even had to buy cleaning supplies to clean the room myself. To make matters worse, while discussing these issues with the front desk at check out, another s

This was one of the nicest places we have stayed at in a long time. We had a balcony room overlooking the river. The room is peaceful and spotless. We appreciated the king bed and the breakfast was good. First time in a very long time since we've seen monogrammed towels. We thought that practice had gone out of style, but it is this classy additional treat that contributes to knowing why they received an award upon the completion of this very well built hotel. They have obviously maintained very high standards to the benefit of their customers. Staff are also very friendly.

The bed was great, the view is nice, the staff are very good...but its not a 4 star hotel. Some new lamps that castr enough light to read would be an improvement or that actuallly work! The decor is dark , much better in the rooms that have a laminate floor.. But the bathroom and towels are very nice. The little town of Montague was a good choice for us. The breakfast is okay to get on the road.

Rooms weren't bad, the Lady at the desk was very rude. We were here for work and had to stay a few extra nights. She acted like it was a big deal to keep our room. (The place is practically empty) Then we had to get our key card updated and she was put off by that. Wifi isn't working. I asked her if they changed the password or something and she says it's not her problem it's EastLinks. What a joke, work on your customer service skills! 0 stars and we will book in Charlottetown before coming back here again!

Our go to place when visiting the area, we have stayed in their newer room and their little cabins and enjoyed both. Easy to book and have friendly staff. Only negative they advertise a laundromat but it is always closed or out of commission.

The main building looks very nice . we did not stay there. We were in a 3 bedroom cottage x 2, which I would rate at 3 star. It was clean but little things like a broken handle on the screen door, a picnic table that had rotted through. We had 3 units booked as a family. 1 unit #7 I would not rate higher than a 2. it had a broken lazy boy chair and I 'll leave the rest to your imagination. In the 3 bedroom we stayed in the arms on the chair were dirty and sticky, not to our liking. The units are well equipped with utensils etc. Kudos to the manager who I spoke with and he offered and made immediate corrections and upgrades which was greatly appreciated. The location is handy to main street where the majority of the business' are.

This place was recommended by family….and I’m glad we stopped. Rooms were large, clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast is simple, but plenty…and there are laundry facilities. The front desk will even sell laundry pods. Everything we wanted to see was a hop skip and a jump away and we could finally take time to stop. We’ll recommend this place, hopefully can return one day…

We stayed in a cabin along the river. The rooms were very clean and we had everything we needed to prepare meals and sleep comfortably. There are a few things that need attention (old/tired picnic tables, broken window blinds, thin towels, missing light bulbs) but nothing that we could not manage. For the price of an overnight/week long stay, these kinds of small issues should be addressed. The grounds are well-kept and there is ample parking. We wished that the shrubbery along the river bank was thinned out so that the beautiful location could be appreciated. Overall, this is a lovely place to stay in Montague.
