"Not many YHA’s seem to be available in the Winter which is such a shame but the Brecons Beacon YHA is and for any of you luckily enough to stay there, yogi will not be dissapointed. Beautiful surroundings, friendly ideally located. Thank goodness for Winter YHA’s"

Holiday Inn Express SWANSEA - EAST by IHG ★★★

📍 B4290, To, Llandarcy, Jersey Marine, Skewen

"The room was spacious and clean. But the elevator was broken and I was assigned a 2nd room. I didn't understand why it was so hard to lift the suitcases up and down."

Travelodge Merthyr Tydfil Hotel
8.2 (42 reviews)

Travelodge Merthyr Tydfil Hotel ★★★

📍 Leisure Village, Merthyr Tydfil, Cyfarthfa

"We visited Merthyr for a funeral, we stayed at the travelodge the night before, we'd requested an accessible room on the ground floor. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and directed to our groundfloor room. The room... Very clean, smelt really fresh, but so cold, even using the boost function did nothing to warm the room. There was only one towel available for two (rectified as soon as we asked), no loo lid, no loo brush, no glasses in the bathroom or with the cups. Only two pillows. Have to say very noisy from around 6am. On the upside, great choice of eateries, able to park easily in a blue badge space and close to supermarkets, a bar and cheap as chips to stay for a night."

Sgwd Gwladys Lodge ★★★
"Stayed for 2 nights mid week, paid extra for the bigger room. Slept on the floor 2 nights as the metal bed was so squeaky and you could not make a single move without it squeaking. Bought this to the attention of the staff, they tightened the bed, but didn’t work. Velux roof blinds don’t close properly. The shower…….. apart from being the smallest shower cubicle I’ve ever used, the shower unit was dripping water, the water would be hot, then cold, then scorching. The basin takes forever to get hot, but then you have to turn the tap off as the basin over flows. The food was ok, but very expensive for breakfast especially when staying, would have expected some level of discount for staying. You have to park on the road and then walk along the road to get to the lodge, dicing with cars, due to some roadworks and building work currently going on. The staff are friendly enough and helpful, but when you are paying over £200 for 2 nights there is far more expected and I feel that the rooms need some TLC. The saving grace was the waterfalls but was glad to leave after 2 days so that we could get a decent night sleep. Such a shame but would not return here and would look to stay elsewhere."

YHA Brecon Beacons ★★★
"I really recommend this hostel if you would love to do some hikes in the Brecon Beacons! The staff was unbelievable friendly, everything was very clean, the beds are nice and the rooms had a nice temperature. Three little facts: I don’t know if it was just the day I was there or it is in general, but there isn’t a lot of youth there. Almost everybody was 30y or above or a family with children. I really didn’t mind as everybody was very friendly and respectful, but if you go to hostels to meet young people, it could be possible that there are none . The second ‘fact’ is that there is free breakfast as well. If you book a room, you can have free, but simple, breakfast like cornflakes, toast with jam, little croissants and chocolade breads(?), coffee and tea & some juice. I think this wasn’t really clearly mentioned on the website, so I’ve bought an English breakfast in advance. So if you don’t want to spend extra money, you’ll still be able to eat something before you go on an adventure : ) The last fact is that, even tho you only can check in at 17h, if you arrive early, you could drop your bags in the common room and go on a hike. It isn’t really guarded all the time, but I had the feeling the place and people there were very trustworthy!"

"Could not really fault the hotel. The only thing I would say is that strong smell of gloss in the room but let alone that all good breakfast excellent service was brilliant did not try the facilities that they offered as we weren't there long enough .woukd stay there again ."

Travelodge Merthyr Tydfil Hotel ★★★
"Unfortunately it was not an enjoyable stay We were on the ground floor with our window looking out directly onto the cars in the car park directly outside our window There are no net curtains This means it is not possible to have the curtains open as people are directly outside & able to look in This feels uncomfortable resulting in us keeping the curtains closed at all times even when daylight outside We noted that all windows are the same We were also in a very good sized spacious room However the double bed was right over one side nearly up against the bathroom It was too tight for my partner to get into bed, so I used that side of the bed Why when the room is very spacious? Finally, why is there only 30 minutes free wifi? Very cheapskate 15 years ago this was common. Nowadays I don’t know anywhere that does this Next time Travelodge will not be our first choice whilst the facilities remain the same Please take the criticism constructively That is how it is meant "

"Stay was okay, there was no fridge in the room, making stay bit less comfortable (heat wave). Beds could be more comfortable, but hey ho for the price probably nothing to moan about."
