We booked for three nights, on arrival the room was dirty and clearly hadn’t been well cleaned. Bugs running around on carpet, mould in bathroom and room stunk. No one on reception to speak too. That night there was no hot water and again in the morning no hot water, for me or my baby. I went to the kitchen and found the owner and told him there was no hot water and he was extremely defensive , I had to call him again to try fix it , he then came into our room and argued that we weren’t getting a refund on the next two nights, he didn’t fix the hot water and had no response about the disgusting state of the rooms , no apology or anything , I knocked on all the other rooms and they had no hot water either. As of now they still haven’t refunded us our money despite the fact we couldn’t stay the next two nights , horrible rooms and the worst customer experience I have ever encountered from the man that’s the owner

Met on arrival by friendly owner - impressive; Lunch not too busy but good atmosphere in a tastefully refurbished setting: This place is a great addition to my local community and it is nice to see things done well, they deserve to be successful and if they maintain the creative quality of food and good service they will do. Well done Gary Usher & team Geoff Moss

This place looked like a bargain and it was. It was really easy to find and there was plenty of room to park. As soon as I arrived I was greeted by the young lady behind the bar and shown to my room. She explained about ordering breakfast and left me to settle in. The room was easily big enough for me on my own but would have been just as comfortable with two people. This is room 1 which I think is the smallest. The room was very clean and comfortable and the bathroom had plenty of space and a really nice shower with plenty of hot water. There was tea, coffee and biscuits in the room and a nice TV that could be moved to watch from different angles. I went down to the pub which was busy (about 6.30pm) and appeared to be full of locals who were friendly and happy to have a chat. The drinks were very reasonably priced and although I only ate snacks from the bar, the food that other people were ordering looked really good and the prices on the menu looked very reasonable. The staff - the young lady I met on arrival and another gentleman were really nice and would ask if I wanted another drink when my current one was nearly finished. I couldn't fault them for anything. I had a really good sleep and left fairly early so didn't have breakfast but I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.

On the whole we had a good stay here. The location of the place is excellent for the zoo and there’s a great little park in the village too. When we arrived the guy behind the bar (not either of the owners!) had no idea about our booking and was really vague about breakfast the next morning etc. I’d messaged a few weeks before we went and asked for a travel cot in the room - this wasn’t put in the room. We had brought our own just incase and I’m so glad I did! The room was really spacious and we all loved the decor - it was really quirky! We loved that the room had a bit of a lobby area and the table and chairs on the balcony bit that we could sit and have a drink on once the kids were in bed. The second night we didn’t have any hot water (same night as the person previous who reviewed!) Which was difficult with 2 young children. I think bits of the rooms need updating - shower seals etc but I guess that it is a lot cheaper than other places around the area so you get what you pay for! Our only other gripe was the fact there was no food available on evenings - but we were told we could get a takeaway and go and eat it in the pub (not really something we wanted to do!).

This hotel was comfortable and extremely clean. Most of all, the staff were so helpful when we left a coat behind and they sent it on to us and refused to accept postage. The whole trip was excellent - lovely location and food was very good.

Came to Chester from Hull to go to Chester Zoo and stayed here for two nights with my grandparents and it was lovely. This little pub/hotel is about a 15 minute drive away from Chester Zoo. It is a quiet and small little place, so even to work for a couple hours was nice too. The breakfast and dinners we had were lovely and very filling. I’m a vegetarian and I deffinately recommend their vegetable lasagne, it was delicious. They also had two types of vegetarian pizza’s and a couple of starters suitable as well. The cooked breakfast was lovely and certainly was filling which we needed for walking around Chester Zoo all day. Certainly no complaints on food. It’s in a small village if you’ve never been here before, and there isn’t much to walk around if people do like a little walk around. But, thank you to Jess, Nuno and the team at The White Horse Inn, we enjoyed our time with you and even the alcohol was lovely!
