Nelson Hotel

Room: 301 floor bowed and slanting with a small window .giving a limited sea view.. Furniture old, wardrobe moved when opening doors and dressing table had back of a draw missing. Food: breakfast ingredients of a poor standard bacon over done, sausage tasted very mealy , baked beans more sauce than beans. Evening meals limited, baked potato offered 1 evening with a choice of cheese or beans not both. Had to have mattress replaced after first night as springs protruding and no blankets available . There is no phone, biscuits on arrival and a telly with only 2 channels and heating on for a limited amount of time.. All of the staff were excellent and friendly and couldn't do enough for you.

The hotel needs updating. However, the price reflects this. It's cheap. The room was clean. The bed and linen were clean and comfy. was comfy. Basic but ok The Bar and restaurant were both shut due to no guests or staff. Location is great. Such potential ... It's all a bit sad really

Our room needed decorating, the windows cleaned, the wardrobe was so flimsy we thought it was going to collapse and it had no handle on one door, the bedding was stained and the very small T.V. had to be viewed from sitting on the side of the bed. The bathroom floor tiles were cracked and the toilet pan was wobbly and we had difficulty getting the shower switched on. No wi-fi throughout the hotel, iron in room or hairdryer and no biscuits on welcome tray. We did request decaffeinated coffee which was provided on the second day. Stairs were very steep. Unable to switch radiator off. Cleaner did not go in to the bathroom all week to clean or tidy. Room was warm and bed was comfortable and it was lovely and quiet. Plenty of drawer space. Comfortable pillows. Plenty of towels. Staff were eager to please and could not do enough for you and they were all really friendly. Food was lovely and generous portions. Hotel just needs loads of money throwing at it to bring it up to standard.

The best thing about this hotel was how friendly and helpful the staff were. Nicky the manager was like wonder woman going from the desk to bar then bingo caller omg I don't know how she keeps up The room we had was spacious nice en suite with a hot power shower The food was lovely always hot and the choice for gluten free food was so so good compared to other places we have stayed we were well catered for Would definitely come back

Wow, just got back from an amazing, awesome, absolutely fantastic break. As soon as we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by Nicky, she was so friendly, accommodating and along with her fab staff couldn't do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble. Smiling, happy, made the 4 day trip with Caledonian one to be repeated, can't wait till this new year. The food was great, the rooms clean, beds comfortable, what's not to like and the entertainment was so cool with great songs for us all to sing along to. Many thanks to Nicky and all her fab staff, you deserve a break. See you next time.

Went down for dinner. A girl came asked us what we wanted. Gave her our choices. Finally got my first course after 30 mins. The guests on my table waited another 20 mins for theirs.. I gave my concerns to Nikki the manager. Her attitude was completely unacceptable..then one of the girls brought the other guests on my table. There first course. She had words with the girl. Her reply was “ I’ve nothing to apologise for”. We finally got our main course. Which we had to queue up for. So it took 1 hour to serve 2 courses. The staff and the manager need re training in customer service. Would I stay here again. NO definitely not.
